What time is it?

Friday, January 31, 2003 05:32

Argo, don't lie to me now. Is it really after 4:30am? I don't believe you. It can't be. Let's see what hydrogen says. Hmmm... same thing, give or take a bit. (Hmmm... maybe I should run ntp.)

I don't believe it. All the computers must be lying to me. It can't be this late. I've lost time.

Getting over the hump; Employment future

Wednesday, January 29, 2003 17:36

After waffling around most of the day doing nothing but being nervous and reading slashdot, just a few short minutes ago, Bitscape finally worked up the resolve to call the aforementioned recruiter on voice, before the end of the business day.

Email reply came back from recruiter just now. (Or rather, I am reading it just now. It was sent over 12 hours ago.)

Sleepaholic insomnia

Tuesday, January 28, 2003 02:24

I stand behind the counter. The ever-present, unnaturally bright flourcescent lights penetrate every cubic centimeter of space. It feels like late at night, because there are hardly any customers anywhere. Even the produce section, which usually features at least two or three stray customers wandering around, appears completely vacant. It's only 6:30pm, on a Sunday evening. Normally one of the busiest times of the week.

Mountain Fest Underway

Sunday, January 26, 2003 02:34

2 hours ago, I drove up the narrow, windy road of Flagstaff Mountain in the pitch black dead of night, to arrive at the basement residence of the one and only Zan Lynx.

The Lounge Returns (mostly)

Monday, January 20, 2003 21:59

Hurray. The Lounge is back online again. Hopefully, we won't have a server failure again for a long, long time. But just in case another catastrophe occurs, let us remember what another wise man once said: Backing up is the key to life.

Gangs of New York (***)

Friday, January 17, 2003 01:11

This movie takes us back to New York during the middle of the 19th century, when street rivalries between the "natives" and masses of Irish immigrants often became bloody and brutal. Mobs ran the streets. Police and politicans were corrupt, and more loyal to the gangster bosses than the public. And of course, the Civil War was underway, which meant the draft (which only the rich could afford to legally avoid by paying $300). Not a pretty time.

rusty wheels stuck in place, slowly start to creak

Day off

Thursday, January 9, 2003 22:51

Today, I was off work. So this afternoon, I ventured across the plain of Colorado, where I visited not one, but two Temptation Zones, both of which, to my great dismay, appeared to be completely sold out of Buffy Season 3 sets.

My life is not a rerun

Thursday, January 9, 2003 01:38

I've been feeling kind of bummed out and depressed lately. I realize that the reason has a lot to do with me feeling like my life has hit a dead end. Very little to look forward to, not much to strive for, and not a lot of hope. I'd like to remedy this situation.

Writing ramblings at 2am is a challenge

Sunday, January 5, 2003 03:56

Here I am again. The middle of the night, sitting in my dad's living room, catching up on the day's web surfing, listening to some classic Garbage, and thinking it might be a good idea to post something of my own. My brain is a little bleary at the moment, but I'll attempt to write something, even if it isn't cohesive.

As of the moment I write this sentence, January 1 is almost over. It will undoubtedly be January 2 before I finish. Although it might be a little on the late side, this will have to pass as my new year's rambling.

Shoutouts

Bitscape has modified the polling engine to only show 1 vote per IP, in an attempt to counteract poll stuffing by... ahem... certain users who shall not be named. (Sorry to people who surf from behind a NAT or masquerade setup.)
2003-01-09 23:55:40

Bitscape has a suspicion that ultimately, the way to solve this problem is going to be requiring user logins to vote in the polls.
2003-01-10 00:01:49

Zan Lynx: I really wanted to vote for B5 and Buffy both! But after pained consideration, I realized I like B5 just a smidge more.
2003-01-10 02:13:24

Zan Lynx is up this late because of Buffy. She did it. She forced me to watch a whole disc tonight.
2003-01-10 02:14:12

drizzt: i'm surprised b5 is beating farscape in the poll. hmmmmm, that saddens me.
2003-01-10 08:01:42

drizzt: i love B5, but as whole cannot compare to farscape. especially in the acting and writing areas. conceptually B5 is epic and great, but still, no farscape.
2003-01-10 08:03:06

drizzt: but again i guess its like choosing between your favorite pizza in the world and really, really good pizza. both are tasty.
2003-01-10 08:07:25

Yanthor: Predictably, I voted for B5. Farscape is a really great "rockin' space adventure" (as an actress from Andromeda said about her own show) but I don't think it has the depth that B5 does. It has a really good story line with worm holes, but I feel like B5's story depth is at least as good, but the reason I really like it is the character depth. But each person is entitled to their own favorites.
2003-01-10 08:39:18

Yanthor: Drizzt, that's why I feel like it is a little more like the cliche: "apples and oranges". For me Farscape is extremely enjoyable and very different from everything else. I like that.
2003-01-10 08:41:03

Yanthor: BTW, did anyone get a kick out of the link I posted above regarding Jar-Jaromir?
2003-01-10 08:42:31

Linknoid: Yanthor, I was loti
2003-01-10 10:46:02

Linknoid: Sorry, I had to vote for TV is evil. All those commercials give me a headache. But I should have also voted for B5.
2003-01-10 10:47:26

drizzt: yes, very funny.
2003-01-10 10:56:08

drizzt: we'll have to talk about it sometime, yanthor. who knows when that'll be, but i'm sure it'll be an enjoyable conversation.
2003-01-10 10:57:14

Yanthor: Drizzt: I still want to make email contact with you. I think you gave your email address here, but I can't remember the date and my search of bitscape.org at Google failed. Can you give me your email here? I'll be able to email you from work and then we'll be connected. Thanks.
2003-01-10 14:02:36

drizzt: beh73@yahoo.com
2003-01-10 14:23:56

drizzt: did anyone watch firefly? absolutely excellent show. on par with farscape. its a shame it also got cancelled. but hey we can watch the bachelorette right? ; )
2003-01-10 14:25:10

Bitscape: Ah. That's one I forgot to include in the poll. Yes, it is a bummer it's being cancelled. (Although I haven't had much chance to watch it lately anyway, given my work schedules and all...)
2003-01-11 00:22:20

Jäger thinks that, if one's vote is going to be ignored, one should be shown the poll results regardless of one's cookie.
2003-01-12 19:05:14

Kiesa: And exactly whose fault is it your vote is being ignored *glare*
2003-01-12 19:53:14

Kiesa: (this was a glare directed at Jaeger, no one else)
2003-01-12 19:53:42

Bitscape: That probably is a good idea.
2003-01-13 00:16:02

Jäger: Bitscape: remember: the customer is always right-handed.

bouncing recalls some of his more insane customers at Walmart.
2003-01-13 19:40:16

Yanthor: Drizzt, I sent an email from work to the address you gave on January 10. Have you gotten it yet? (My work email always works)
2003-01-14 10:26:50

drizzt: yes
2003-01-15 07:53:09

drizzt: i'll reply soon. just haven't gotten to it yet.
2003-01-15 07:53:30

Jäger returns from interviewing at Quantum
2003-01-15 14:03:09

drizzt: yanthor, going back to our previous exchange,. i would argue that farscape is much, much more than a "rockin' space adventure."
2003-01-15 14:11:45

drizzt: it has alot of the same 'human elements' that B5 has, just not on an epic LOTRs scale. although it is fairly large in scope now if one really thinks about it. anyway, blah blah
2003-01-15 14:13:08

Bitscape: Alright. We should be back up online, although some of the content solutions and all the poll votes were lost. (So vote again, everybody, if you feel so inclined.)
2003-01-20 20:55:01

Jäger: w00t
2003-01-20 21:15:52

bouncing: Yay Houston, neenver neenver microsoft: [www.usatoday.com]
2003-01-22 11:34:03

Linknoid: Bitscape, your comment about not being on drugs right now:
2003-01-24 13:24:39

Linknoid: I suspect that many drug induced states are actually quite natural, but rarely occuring, and taking drugs allows the individual to achieve such a mental state artificially
2003-01-24 13:25:47

Linknoid: Having never touched any drugs besides some prescription I had to take once for "Walking Pneumonia" (it was quite nasty, I'm not sure where the walking part comes in), I can say I've been in states before where I was sure that's what it must be like to be drunk or otherwise drugged
2003-01-24 13:29:19

Linknoid: But I had done absolutely nothing that could have possibly caused it, so it must just be something natural the mind goes through occasionally
2003-01-24 13:30:52

Bitscape: Yeah, I would have to agree somewhat, although I would say drugs could make such states occur in a far more extreme intensity than would otherwise happen, at least most of the time for most people.
2003-01-24 14:01:45

Bitscape: Sleep deprivation also tends to do wierd things to my mind.
2003-01-24 14:02:47

Bitscape: Of course, given that I've been diagnosed with a certain psychiatric condition, I probably wouldn't make a good candidate for a baseline.
2003-01-24 14:10:36

Jäger would have a Special Beverage Suprise for tomorrow's fest

bouncing: Order your scottgalvin.com panties, while supplies last (forever): [kenkinder.com]
2003-01-25 21:56:30

Linknoid: While the underwear is of little interest, I would like to inquire about the calendar
2003-01-25 22:21:12

Linknoid: How much does it cost to make, what's involved, where do you get it made? I might be interested in making 1 copy of a calendar if it's practical and not too expensive
2003-01-25 22:22:56

bouncing: Just order mine! Or if you really suck, well, screw you! Go to cafepress.com and make your own. But it's really better to just order mine.
2003-01-25 22:37:14

bouncing: If you do start your own cafe press store, enter kenkinder.com as the referral -- I get a kickback.
2003-01-25 22:37:35

Jäger: Proof that living in San Antonio is bad fon one's sanity.
2003-01-25 23:31:22

Bitscape: Hellooooo from Zan Lynx's Mountain fest!
2003-01-26 01:04:46

Bitscape: scottgalvin.com panties?!? Hey, maybe I should become a cross-dresser just for the opportunity to wear those.
2003-01-26 01:06:18

Jäger returns to the Boulder Compound after a fun-filled and action-packed Fest and contemplates regeneration
2003-01-26 09:40:55

Linknoid: Maybe I will order yours for my own use, you don't have to be so insulting about it. But I'd still like to be able to make my own (for reasons I will not reveal here). Which is why I asked the question. What all is involved?
2003-01-26 11:12:01

Linknoid: I don't wish to compete against you, I'm not insterested in trying to make money off it, I'd just like to make my own calendar
2003-01-26 11:13:09

Linknoid: Now that I look at it, making my own might not be such a good idea, I don't think my 2 Megapixel camera takes anywhere near the resolution needed for that kind of images
2003-01-26 11:53:41

bouncing: Linknoid, it's a joke. :) I created that store mostly so I could have scottgalvin.com panties. ;) It's very easy to do. You just go in and sign up. The basic store is free. And your 2 megapixel camera would be okay -- the image quality would simply be only as good as -- say -- your monitor. (about the same size)
2003-01-27 22:29:20

bouncing: I don't mean to insult you -- I'm just joking around.
2003-01-27 22:29:53

Jäger finishes reading War of Honor
2003-01-27 23:19:14

Linknoid: Unfortunately, print media requires a much higher resolution than CRTs to give the impression of similar quality
2003-01-28 10:59:51

Linknoid: How about: I'm not living, you insensitive clod.
2003-01-29 20:13:17

bouncing: I had an offer for freelance work in Jan from a certain $former_contractor I worked for. Even though hourly, it was over twice my current salary, I turned it down in favor of keeping my current, stable, job.
2003-01-29 20:56:51

bouncing: But, it actually sounds like you're talking to a third party recruiter here. In which case, if they like your work, they may try to use you for more clients.
2003-01-29 20:57:37

bouncing: BTW, I would have passed them off to you, but it wasn't really in your line of work.
