The Lounge Returns (mostly)

Hurray. The Lounge is back online again. Hopefully, we won't have a server failure again for a long, long time. But just in case another catastrophe occurs, let us remember what another wise man once said: Backing up is the key to life.

Recent poll data and content solutions chatter were lost in the outage. Fortunately, one Commodore Jaeger was lucky enough to have some of the content solutions comments in his browser cache. The things that could be recovered have been restored.

All poll votes, as well as anything that may have been entered into the content collective since the switch back to the cobalt, have been lost.

My next move shall be to make sure the backup script is both working AND in Argo's crontab. Backing up is the key to life. :)

[.... time passes ...]

Alrighty. I think we should have a good working backup system now, which will now also include poll data. Yum yum.

The past few days, I realize I have been rather lax in writing content. This might partly be due to the fact that having the server down seems to sap what little motivation I might otherwise have to write something. And also.... well, there doesn't seem to be much to write these days.

The thought occurs that maybe it would be a good idea to finish the multi-part epic I started many moons ago. Maybe if I'm lucky, I could even get there before Jaeger does. Since he seems to be moving again, maybe Soon would be a good time for that.

Then again, I find myself unbearably tempted to watch another Season 3 episode of Buffy tonight. (My viewing of the DVD set was delayed, since I decided to go through Jaeger's Babylon 5 set first. But now that I've finished devouring those with a vengeance, I've started on the slayer, like a vampire who hasn't tasted blood in half a millennium.)

Tonight's mass irc is proving moderately entertaining. I think I'll (figuratively) wander off now.
