Holidays Winding Down, Lounge Back Online

Monday, December 30, 2002 02:20

Preliminary examination reveals that my hour of work this evening has paid off; the Lounge appears to be running well on the new server, and at this very moment, the content collective database is being copied. A fairly smooth transition, now that I've finally gotten around putting a little time into it.

Christmas, etc

Wednesday, December 25, 2002 19:06

Hey people. A lot of stuff has been happening recently. Things have been ridiculously busy. I haven't had time to write content, or do much of anything computer related for several days, due to a combination of demands at work, spending as much time as I can with with the family while we're all together, and of course, the fact that my pc is at one residence and my bed at another.

Off work for a while

Hydrogen for the whole family

Tuesday, December 10, 2002 23:38

This is exciting. I'm here at the Boulder Compound, where the server Hydrogen is up and running. Jaeger and I have been reading slashdot^W^W hard at work fixing bugs and getting things ready for production. I just got the email alias code working to my satisfaction, so I think I'll now sit back, congratulate myself, and read a salon article before journeying back to mom's place to sleep.

Rambling from the Boulder Compound

Friday, December 6, 2002 00:41

Well, this would be a first, at least since Dagobah has taken up residence in the Alcove of the Boulder Compound. (Technically, of course, I am making the rambling on argo via an ssh session. It would be a messy thing to try to make it all work independently of argo while still maintaining consistency between the 2 databases.)

Mini-phest and Content

After having been to the phesting event at the Boulder Compound, I am now swinging by the Laser Fortress to check some much-heralded recent web content, and write a little of it myself.

Jäger finally convinces gnome2 to function properly
2002-12-01 14:58:36

Jäger prepares another fun-filled and action-packed web video
2002-12-01 16:18:23

Signalman: tries to contact Jaeger. Previous communication perhaps not received.
2002-12-02 11:03:24

Yanthor: Drizzt, can you email me your current email address? Or can someone email me Drizzt's current email address? Mail to: yanthor@NOSPAMyanthor.net without the "NOSPAM"
2002-12-02 11:14:54

Jäger has been a horrible, uncommunacative sloth lately. Previous communication was recieved.
2002-12-02 13:32:10

drizzt: done
2002-12-03 08:37:49

Yanthor: Drizzt, I still never got an email from you. I tested the above address from my work email address and it worked. Can you check to see if the email bounced back to you and why?
2002-12-03 15:52:25

drizzt: i just sent it again. not sure why it bounced back.
2002-12-04 07:54:43

drizzt: yanthor, it bounced back again.it doesn't say why. just non-fatal error.
2002-12-04 09:59:31

drizzt: actually it says address has transient non-fatal errors.
2002-12-04 10:00:25

drizzt: anyway, here is one of them beh73@NOSPAMyahoo.com
2002-12-04 10:00:54

Jäger convinces Kiesa's tv tuner card to work on Ziyal
2002-12-04 12:15:12

Bitscape: Yanthor, the reply I tried to send your message bounced too. It wasn't the yanthor address though, but the other one on the From line of your email.
2002-12-04 23:18:25

Jäger notes that neither yanthor.net nor enderson.net have mx records
2002-12-05 00:32:38

Yanthor: I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the acronym "mx". I recently moved Chiana behind a firewall, and I thought I opened the DNS port correctly.
2002-12-05 08:07:22

Yanthor: Did I miss something?
2002-12-05 08:07:43

Yanthor: Is everyone able to ssh to Chiana, as well as hit all of the websites it hosts? Are there any other services besides email that are being weird?
2002-12-05 08:12:29

Jäger: MX == mail exchanger. It specifyies which server one should contact to send mail to that domain.
2002-12-05 10:56:19

Jäger: (I'm not sure if it's required or not. My mail made it through ok. I'm curious what exact error messages others are getting.)
2002-12-05 10:59:50

Jäger: So Union has female computer students these days, eh? Really getting progressive of late. (Anyone I know?)
2002-12-05 11:00:27

Yanthor: Yeah, I think you know her. :-) Red hair, quite outgoing. A senior, so she would have been a freshman your sophomore year.
2002-12-05 16:24:20

Yanthor: Jaeger, how do you set an MX setting? I thought other SMTP servers simply did a DNS resolve on a domain and tried to connect to an SMTP server on that domain's IP.
2002-12-05 16:25:23

Yanthor: I'm thinking she was in FatalTalon's class before he took this year off to be an SM.
2002-12-05 16:27:12

Bitscape: I would suggest adding it to the zone files. A line that looks like the following: bitscape.org IN MX 10 argo.bitscape.org. (only an example)
2002-12-05 17:48:42

Jäger votes no, and suggests that we need our own "none of the above" option.
2002-12-06 01:02:21

Jäger is quite confident he knows of the female computer student in question (and even recalls a codename we gave her, once upon a time), but is uncertian who FatalTalon is. (Although now that I think about it, I do have a theory.)
2002-12-06 01:04:06

Kiesa: Yes! I hate it when someone *cough in Jaeger's direction* watches my computer screen.

2002-12-07 15:21:38

scott: and it bugs the hell out of me when jaeger watches what i type. bitscape, nice sg quote, btw. i thought that had to do with a previous relationship :)

Yanthor: GREAT web-based game! (you need shockwave) [www.nny.com]
2002-12-10 13:46:15

drizzt: has anyone heard if the scifi channel will wrap up the farscape story after its cancelled at the end of season 4?
2002-12-11 08:35:49

Yanthor: I've read lots regarding Farscape. The producer said that if the last episode of season 4 is the last one ever made, it will be a decent ending, but they are also leaving the door open for another season, movie(s), or finale miniseries.
2002-12-11 10:16:58
