Just reading over some other people's reviews on Illuminata. A wildly (probably inaccurate) guess, and I'd say 2/3 of those posting did not like it. Well, aren't I the oddball? lol.

Illuminata (*** 1/2)

Thursday, August 31, 2000 22:47

Nothing if not.... different.

Um.... Trying to think how to describe this one. A movie about a struggling playwrite, all sorts of wacky characters in the cast, sprinkled very generously with humorous references to Shakespeare, as well as a variety of other classic and modern works. Gee, we haven't seen anything along those lines in recent times, now, have we? ;)

But still, this one is... different.

The cinematography in this one was quite stunning. Many, many shots that one can just fall in love with. Certainly no shortage there.

What really adds to the fun are the continuous cross-references made by the characters/playwrite between their real lives in the movie, and the play within it. But really, the whole thing is pretty much choreographed, written, and acted in the style of a theatrical play, so you get this sense of doubly fun irony about the entire matter.

I'm sorry if that last paragraph made absolutely no sense. I tried to explain. I really did! These things just have too much of a recursive avant-garde funkiness in them to really be able to explain the situation to a satisfactory degree in a movielog entry.

Place on top of that all the romantic twists, some really dark, quizzical humor (Ok, I was laughing. Maybe nobody else who say this movie was. Or maybe they were. I haven't gotten around to reading other people's reviews yet.), and some top notch acting performances (Rufus Sewell, Dark City man, yeah! Of course, Christopher Walken is always a treat)... It translates to a good couple hours of entertainment.

I'll leave it to others to ponder the deeper, sappier meanings. I'm sure there's some there too, but I don't feel like trying to figure them out right now. (Although I will say I was affected.)

A worthy viewing for anyone interested in something a little out of the ordinary.

Evening of Gaming -- Quickie

Thursday, August 24, 2000 22:51

As was contemplated last night, Shadowkiller did spend a significant portion of the evening tonight in pursuit of the almighty frag. (Although it has been used recently for other purposes, some might recall that the first time I ever used the handle of Shadowkiller was in the original Quake deathmatches). Beat Klask, which meant completion of Tier 3 on the Hurt Me Plenty level. After playing around a bit on the Tier 4 levels, it was time to try a change of pace.

Bleeh bleeh bleeh

Wednesday, August 16, 2000 19:03

Well, ya know that mini-rant I did the other day about Linux games being hard to obtain? This morning, I was really beginning to wonder if my LinuxMall order was ever going to come. So I sent an email. Got a response fairly quickly stating that they were no longer backordered, and had indeed shipped my stuff on the 11th. It would've been nice to recieve an email when the shipment had actually been made, but I was happy to hear that it was on the way.

Went to the UPS page, checked my tracking number, and their data told me that it was scheduled for delivery on.... August 16! Today. Woohoo! (Also got a nice little display of the route it had gone to get here, which showed that as of this morning, it was in the Denver area.)

So naturally, when I arrived home, I wasn't at all surprised to find a box addressed to me sitting on the table. And inside, a tin box containing the hallowed game of Quake III, and a cardboard one with Railroad Tycoon II, penguin portrayals prominently affixed to the front of each. Excellent, Smithers.

I'm sure Argo is going to have a ball tonight. (And, in a slight change of plans, Tobias will not be getting a bath tonight. Instead, he has been getting a shower for most of the afternoon. A cold one. The bath will have to wait.)

But before we commence with the installation of these newly obtained time sinks (as if I really have lots of time to be throwing away these days, but that's beside the point). Before we commence, I would like to commemorate an important event.

I am pleased to announce that today, for the first time in history, this web site -- Bitscape's Lounge -- was given the unique distinction and honor of being compared to a porn site. (In the generic sense, not any specific porn site. Sorry, no links. ;)

Of course, you can imagine what went through my mind when I heard this. "Oh, yes! I've made it! All my life, I've wanted to run -- if not an actual porn site -- something which [somebody claims] is very similar to a porn site in many ways."

Now, my career as as web content provider is complete, and I shall retire, content with that knowledge. lol.

Ok, it all started while we were on the way to lunch. Me and a couple of co-workers were having a discussion. The topic, oddly enough, was this very web site. (We must've been hitting the bottom of the barrel in conversation fodder.) The two people in the car with me expressed something of a disbelief that I would write to put so many personal thoughts on a web site which could literally be read by anybody.

One person asked how many readers/hits I get, and I replied that I really have no clue, because these days, I make it a point not to look at the logs. Then, out of the blue, the other:

(Disclaimer: This is a paraphrase, and may not reflect the exact wording.) "You know, I was watching this show on the Discovery channel featuring a person who wrote a book about the psychology of the Internet. In a lot of ways, your site is very similar to these homegrown PORN sites some people have been making. The psychology really works the same way!"

Oookkkkaaaay..... I was... flattered? Amused? Dumbstruck? Well... I now have the honer. rotfl.

I admit, I may have, in passing, mentioned the thought of putting up a webcam in my room, but never seriously. (Not that there's anyone in this... web circle thing... who has ever... erected.. such a setup. Never. ;) Ok, bad use of words. Bad, bad, bad!

Ok, fine, all ye perverts, here's your link. (Disclaimer: I will neither confirm nor deny whether I make or have ever made visits to any site linked to or not linked to from here or anywhere else. Further, I take no responsibility for anyone else clicks, nor do I take responsibility for anything that may happen as a result of those clicks.) Now, go surfing like good little children. As for myself? I have some supper to eat, and some games to install. Bye.

Tobias gets new oil, not much else happens

Tuesday, August 15, 2000 22:09

So, last night (in between compiling drivers and reconfiguring X servers), I decided it was high time for Tobias to get an oil change. I contemplated going to the dealer to have it done, so called and asked about it. They're backed up for at least the next week, and besides, this is something I've sort of wanted to learn to do myself. (I think I would classify myself as worse than a dummy when it comes to auto mechanics.)

Midway through the third act, the compile was finished. I don't even want to know how long that would've taken on Dagobah.

The sequel to No Sleep (apparently)

I woke up about 45 minutes ago, and am finding myself utterly unable to get back to sleep. I just can't stop thinking about the possible contingencies... Argo, Argo, Argo. Should I stop at the store tomorrow, and pay way more than I normallly would for a more modern distro cd just so I can have it working now? Or should I wait until Saturday night, to see if Jaeger and/or bouncing are in possession of such an item? Either way, I'll probably just be doing a total wipe again when the much anticipated Potato cds come out (very very soon, if sources are to be believed), and/or my DSL line returns to working status.

Brought the box out immediately, said it had been right where it was supposed to, and attempted to muse how somebody could have missed it. 2000-08-14 09:38:06-06

bse: brand spanking new content.. coming very soon.. but shhh ;)
2000-08-14 12:35:12-06

bse: ummm.. resorting to seemingly random words to fill our vulturistic needs? dadadodo doesn't sound healthy to me...=o
2000-08-15 06:13:45-06

Jäger finally managed to create a deadlock... always helps to release mutexes *before* returning from functions.

2000-08-15 14:43:21-06

Jäger: Payday today! :)
2000-08-15 16:27:53-06

bse: yay
2000-08-15 19:24:16-06

Bitscape: That it was. That it was. :)
2000-08-15 21:25:42-06

Jäger: sleep! i need sleep!
2000-08-16 01:11:35-06

Shadowkiller: I could use some sleep myself.
2000-08-16 10:46:52-06

Shadowkiller: Does anybode here remember Vera Lynn?
2000-08-16 11:03:58-06

Shadowkiller: s/anybode/anybody
2000-08-16 11:04:19-06

bse: i do.. but im a brit after all.. heh ;)
2000-08-16 11:28:00-06

Jäger: um, no.
2000-08-16 14:53:10-06

Shadowkiller: Actually, I don't either, but I remember the Pink Floyd song. :)
2000-08-16 15:47:40-06

bse: we're all voyeurs...
2000-08-16 20:36:54-06

Bitscape: Ah, but the question is: Are we voyeurs because we spend all our time on the Internet, or do we spend all our time on the Internet because we're voyeurs? :)
2000-08-16 21:36:48-06

Bitscape: Ah, but the question is: Are we voyeurs because we spend all our time on the Internet, or do we spend all our time on the Internet because we're voyeurs? :)
2000-08-16 21:36:49-06

Bitscape: Doh!
2000-08-16 21:37:17-06

Jäger of the Alcove: Go to x13 and search for "voyearism". if you can remember how to spell it.
2000-08-17 01:06:42-06

bouncing ponders urchin.
2000-08-17 09:41:18-06

bouncing also points out the /me behavior on kenkinder ... dotcom!
2000-08-17 09:41:51-06

Jäger points out the /me behaviour on jaegerfesting ... dotorg!
2000-08-17 11:30:34-06

Jäger: (well, there's another dot in there too.)
2000-08-17 11:33:55-06

bouncing: Couldn't get there -- the splash page for "jeagerfesting ... dotorg" was too large to fit down my tiny T3!
2000-08-17 11:49:53-06

Jäger: It probably wouldn't hurt to spell it properly.
2000-08-17 12:12:44-06

bouncing: RAID. Redundant Array Independant Disks. JBOD. Just a Bunch of Disks. :) Yeah baby!
2000-08-17 13:10:27-06

Shadowkiller: Looks like the Lounge is falling behind. Maybe I'll have to convince Bitscape to stop playing Quake long enough to spiffy up the code. :)
2000-08-17 14:42:01-06

Jäger: mmm... quake...
2000-08-17 14:52:22-06

Bitscape: Jaeger, Ziyal is capable of running Q3, is she not?
2000-08-17 20:49:50-06

Jäger: theoretically yes. I just haven't tried yet. (Probabally will this weekend, if things go as planned.)
2000-08-18 00:11:04-06

Bitscape: Ya want hardware accel? Ya gotta WORK for it! :)
2000-08-18 07:38:50-06

bse @ petegoss: these sunray's are nifty ;)
2000-08-18 09:05:08-06

bouncing: bitscape: how goes the 3d acceloration?
2000-08-18 10:32:47-06

Jäger: so i'm throwing together a cd to take home, full of all sorts of high-bandwidth stuff i couldn't get feasabally otherwise. Any good ideas on what i should grab? (already have q3 demo plus a bunch of digital blasphemy wallpapers.)
2000-08-18 10:36:35-06

Shadowkiller: Doeth I hear the weekend approaching? :)
2000-08-18 10:43:02-06

Shadowkiller: Jaeger, you could download XFree86 4.0.1 for a REAL adventure. :)
2000-08-18 10:49:10-06

Shadowkiller: (speaking for Bitscape) bouncing, 3d accel under Xfree4 rocks!
2000-08-18 10:49:56-06

bouncing: bitscape: which card do you have again?
2000-08-18 10:57:25-06

bouncing: Ok everyone, rate your productivity on a scale of 0-F
2000-08-18 11:06:30-06

Jäger of Cubeville: Depends on whether you count
2000-08-18 11:07:42-06

Jäger of Cubeville: "waiting for the build to compile" as productive or not.
2000-08-18 11:08:01-06

Jäger of Cubeville: xf86/4 source or binaries?
2000-08-18 11:13:17-06

Shadowkiller: binary tarballs
2000-08-18 11:22:09-06

Shadowkiller: Bitscape owns a Matrox G400
2000-08-18 11:22:25-06

Shadowkiller: That all depends upon whether you consider typing psychobabble into StarOffice as "being productive". :)
2000-08-18 11:24:20-06

Shadowkiller: Today, I would rate my productivity scale at maybe a "B". Yesterday, OTOH, would've been closer to a D.
2000-08-18 11:25:20-06

Shadowkiller: Wait a sec... 0-F? Don't you mean A-F? Or are we doing this in hex?
2000-08-18 11:31:22-06

bouncing: Rules: 0-F is in hex, productivity meaning you're getting something done (whether or not that something is worthwhile)
2000-08-18 11:35:01-06

2000-08-18 11:43:22-06

Jäger of Cubeville: one could easily conclude, based on the volume of content here, that we're being pretty unproductive
2000-08-18 11:45:50-06

bouncing: The low level of job-productivity: working on your homepage. This is second only to add content on your homepage.
2000-08-18 11:48:17-06

Shadowkiller: I suppose by some vague definition, typing this stuff could be considered "adding content" to your page.
2000-08-18 12:01:01-06

bouncing: Indeed. Putting the word "solution" in there disclaims you from making any *real* content.
2000-08-18 12:21:27-06

bouncing is heading out at 4pm today. :p
2000-08-18 12:21:57-06

2000-08-18 14:40:41-06

2000-08-19 11:03:43-06

bse: neat.. the chatterbox doesnt like speach marks.. thats supopsed to say ''queue''..
2000-08-19 11:15:29-06

Bitscape: Hmmmm... Curious. I checked the database, and it looks like it got cut off.
2000-08-19 12:00:14-06

Bitscape: testing 'this'
2000-08-19 12:09:08-06

Bitscape is now testing 'this'
2000-08-19 12:09:25-06

Bitscape has a sly suspicion that jaegerfesting forgot to escape the following: 'quotes'.
2000-08-19 12:11:00-06

Bitscape: Hmmmmm... Appears to work for me.
2000-08-19 12:11:16-06

Bitscape: Trying, backquotes: `inside backquotes`
2000-08-19 12:11:53-06

Bitscape: Oh well.
2000-08-19 12:12:01-06

Bitscape: Or maybe double quotes: "double quoted"
2000-08-19 12:12:57-06

bse: spiffy
2000-08-19 18:07:11-06

Jäger: bse: line, usually
2000-08-19 22:05:02-06

Jäger: here's the bug: when you double-quote something and don't have a "speek as" cookie, it gives you another page with the ability to enter your name and maybe modify what you're going to say. Problem is, it doesn't escape anything, so the browser inteperates the double-quote as the end of the value="" string.
2000-08-19 22:06:15-06

Jäger of bugville: now testing "it"
2000-08-19 22:09:58-06

Jäger of bugville: now fixed

Bitscape: Jaeger, your xml file is not validating. My parser signals the following error:

Bitscape: XML Parsing Error: not well-formed Line Number 2, Column 31
2000-08-21 22:30:19-06

Bitscape: (This from a browser that understands the XML spec to the letter.)
2000-08-21 22:30:59-06

bse: hmmm... interesting..
2000-08-22 06:50:21-06

Jäger: oh bah. Anyone have an xml spec to point me to?
2000-08-22 08:44:52-06

bse: perhaps, [www.w3.org] is what you're looking for...
2000-08-22 08:48:29-06

Shadowkiller: I suspect that your problem might have something to do with the fact that the id numeral is not enclosed in quotes.
2000-08-22 09:01:32-06

Jäger of Cubeville: is that a problem, not quoting a number? (maybe i'm just used to overly-premissive web browsers.)
2000-08-22 09:34:19-06

Shadowkiller: In xml, all tag attribute values should be quoted.
2000-08-22 09:35:44-06

bouncing: Where is this XML of the tedmonger?
2000-08-22 10:27:30-06

bouncing: This I find interesting. mp3.com, which allows people to listen to music they already own, has had its trial ended -- mp3.com is shelling out $20,000,000 in damages plus royalties. Napster, which requires no proof of ownership is legally not infringing on copyrights? I'm for both mp3.com and napster -- but it seems that trying to get along with record companies gets you sued even quicker!
2000-08-22 10:50:17-06

Jäger of Cubeville: try reading my site every once and a while. (If you posted content, i'd read yours, too.)
2000-08-22 11:23:08-06

Jäger of Cubeville: There, how's that for the xml?
2000-08-22 11:26:17-06

bouncing: Ah - yes. Well, that XML looks valid to me. Although, I would point out that only two-thirds of the solutions providers use the rusty knife.
2000-08-22 12:14:34-06

bouncing: BTW - I think we should have a Solutions Enterprise Partnership for Content Solutions. On with the development of the world's leading Useless [Mis]Information Distribution System. Any ideas?
2000-08-22 12:16:16-06

bouncing: The Worst Sci-Fi Movie Ever... has been reviewed!
2000-08-22 12:57:36-06

Jäger of Cubeville: Fun for the whole Festing family!
2000-08-22 13:16:03-06

bse: is it me or does XML::Parser just bomb out with this content? (mind you, i have only been fiddlign with it for about 3hours)
2000-08-22 14:28:52-06

Shadowkiller: The authority on all that is good and true says:

Shadowkiller: XML Parsing Error: junk after document element Line Number 9, Column 0
2000-08-22 15:07:22-06

Shadowkiller thinks Jaeger would do well to use one of the existing perl modules (written by ones wiser that ourselves) to create his xml.
2000-08-22 15:09:29-06

Jäger of Cubeville: This still isn't guarenteed Most Officialy-Sanctioned Correct xml yet. I'm still figuring that out.
2000-08-22 15:09:56-06

bse agrees.. may i recomment XML::Dumper...
2000-08-22 15:11:56-06

Jäger of Cubeville: don't tell me I have to invent my own xml dtd now.
2000-08-22 15:17:24-06

2000-08-22 17:17:18-06

Jäger of Cubeville: so you want a site id, for great submissions into this crazed database?
2000-08-22 17:31:46-06

Jäger of Cubeville: oh yeah, any suggestions on how to improve the parsability of my xml would be great...
2000-08-22 17:32:46-06

Bitscape: The latest error:

bse: darn ä's =o
2000-08-22 17:53:01-06

bse: i got it parsing properly with a surrounding tag surrounding sitelist and content.. otherwise it fizzles away after sitelist (for kicks i called it <fun> ;)
2000-08-22 17:54:36-06

bse: oh.. a siteid would be groovy, i'm in between sites right now though ;)
2000-08-22 18:01:28-06

Jäger: that would probably explain why your site has been lacking in content this past week...
2000-08-22 20:50:19-06

bse: ah yes.. probably ;)
2000-08-23 05:41:38-06

2000-08-24 10:30:53-06

Jäger of Cubeville points out that his cd rack is sitting on the shelf directly above his monitor, for highly convient access. So no migrations here.
2000-08-24 10:33:45-06

bse: uhm.. in my room there are, uhm, 3 architecures, and 4.5 OS's =o
2000-08-24 10:40:04-06

bouncing of doggieland: In my office, there are seven'ish computers, three platforms.
2000-08-24 11:09:48-06

Shadowkiller: Well don't I feel silly. Around here, it's x86 galore, and not much else.
2000-08-24 11:16:08-06

bouncing: ugh, platform == OS in my case. This office only has x13
2000-08-24 11:38:39-06

bouncing: Intel, Alpha, Sparc, Motorolla
2000-08-24 12:59:55-06

bouncing: The real question is: how many operating systems are you using? (flavors are the same OS. Ie, hpux and solaris are the same. Linux and solaris are not)
2000-08-24 13:02:06-06

Jäger of Cubeville: scratch Alpha, but the rest are right. (Assuming by "Motoralla" you mean PPC.)
2000-08-24 13:15:27-06

Jäger of Cubeville: Me? Personally? One OS. The One True OS. But in the formerly-defined three-cube region, five oses are in use.
2000-08-24 13:16:50-06

bouncing: Motoralla == PPC in the same way Intel == x86
2000-08-24 14:13:55-06

Jäger of Cubeville: ever have one of those times when you're not sure if more or less caffeine is what you need?

2000-08-24 16:12:25-06

Jäger of Cubeville: i swear. There are ghosts in my compiler.
2000-08-24 16:37:22-06

bouncing thinks he likes la la land.
2000-08-24 19:48:01-06

Jäger: So what can we conclude about "Shadowkiller" being the alias being used for from-work Content Solutions Solutions?
2000-08-24 23:51:13-06

Bitscape: Perhaps we could conclude that Shadowkiller never forgets to bring his rocket launcher, navigates the cubes as if there's a grunt with a shotgun waiting aronud every corner, and ALWAYS fires before he looks. Or maybe some things are just totally random. :)
2000-08-25 06:43:13-06

Shadowkiller picks up a plasma rifle.
2000-08-25 09:11:43-06

Jäger of Cubeville: it helps when i remember which param is which, eh?
2000-08-25 10:01:08-06

Shadowkiller: Or perhaps it would help to remember the truth: There is no param.
2000-08-25 10:36:56-06

Jäger of Cubeville: Guess who just got modded up?
2000-08-25 11:08:13-06

2000-08-25 13:10:04-06

Shadowkiller: Are you trying to tell us that if content is created and nobody sees it, then the content never really existed at all? ;)
2000-08-25 13:41:38-06

bouncing: no one's there to read it? With the exception of bse and bitscape, that's your web page Ted! :)

2000-08-26 22:07:11-06

Jäger: bah!
2000-08-27 11:34:14-06

bse: hurrah for live music!! =o
2000-08-27 11:44:53-06

bse: hrmm.. "piston" or "pist.on"?
2000-08-27 11:48:04-06

bouncing struggles to get is mouse working in XF86 4.01
2000-08-27 11:49:36-06

bouncing: This is programming... on ugh.. crack
2000-08-27 12:46:25-06

Bitscape: Actually, yeah bse. Pist.on would be correct. :)
2000-08-27 13:52:18-06

Bitscape: bouncing: If your mouse isn't working already, try killing gpm. That did wonders for me.
2000-08-27 13:53:09-06

Jäger: wow, I think I'm addicted to Descent3 now. Great fun.
2000-08-27 14:23:37-06

Jäger: Now, all I need to do is figure out exactly how virtural methods work... whee
2000-08-27 14:24:18-06

Bitscape: Uh oh. Just what I need. Another 3d hyper action game to get addicted to. Noooooo!
2000-08-27 14:49:04-06

Jäger: Guess who just started reading Salon articles on his Visor?
2000-08-27 14:51:20-06

Bitscape: Does this mean that Jaeger is now becoming one of these people who surfs the web while walking down the sidewalk?
2000-08-27 16:22:41-06

bse: oh dear =P
2000-08-27 16:39:09-06

Bitscape: I HATE electrical storms. I do. I do!
2000-08-27 19:15:09-06

bse: wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
2000-08-27 19:34:08-06

bse, you silly script: hm.. 3day weekend where we are too, but its a public holiday.. or as we call them Bank Holiday (basically a normal day, but with james bond movies and all the shops are shut - ala sunday ;)
2000-08-27 19:47:43-06

Bitscape: A fest. What a fabulous idea! :)
2000-08-27 20:01:31-06

Bitscape would like to point out a possible advantage the Louisville Compound might have (assuming parental units approve). One word: DSL.
2000-08-27 20:02:45-06

bse: have you considered moving away from Times New Roman? awful font =(
2000-08-27 21:21:35-06

Bitscape: How do you like THIS? :)
2000-08-27 21:53:17-06

Bitscape: It seems that half the fonts I try to use end up looking like puke in Navigator 4. :(
2000-08-27 22:02:11-06

Jäger suffered a power outage this evening too. But it was inflicted by his dad's playing with the circuit breaker.
2000-08-27 22:30:19-06

Jäger: stupid home-improvement projects.
2000-08-27 22:33:15-06

Third of Five would go for some DSL action. Bandwidth! Sweet bandwidth!
2000-08-27 22:33:59-06

Shadowkiller yawns. Whoa, spooky fonts, man!
2000-08-28 08:05:22-06

bouncing: jaeger -- you probably qualify for Covad DSL
2000-08-28 09:57:39-06

Jäger of Cubeville: ooh, looks like i'm elegible. But too bad I'll only be home for another few weeks...
2000-08-28 11:30:57-06

Jäger of Cubeville: All quiet on the content front
2000-08-29 08:23:22-06

Shadowkiller: Is silence really all that golden?
2000-08-29 09:18:06-06

Jäger of Cubeville just checked: he used to live four kilometers from Napster's Redwood City headquarters
2000-08-29 09:21:20-06

bouncing: < > This is a test & fun.
2000-08-29 10:36:00-06

bouncing: kenkinder.com, in addition to imaginary spec compliance, now decraps Jaeger's handle.
2000-08-29 10:39:33-06

Jäger of Cubeville: impressive: you actually got the "a" and the "e" in the right onder.
2000-08-29 10:44:04-06

Shadowkiller: Impressive.
2000-08-29 10:57:32-06

Third of Five checks in from a special computer... but i'll only speak off the record.
2000-08-29 11:07:56-06

bouncing: Get this: Tom Christiansen came into our office asking for a Linux CD!
2000-08-29 11:58:41-06

Shadowkiller: Oooh!
2000-08-29 12:00:28-06

Shadowkiller would hope that bouncing did not make any derogatory comments about Perl or vi while The Master was in the house. :)
2000-08-29 12:01:06-06

Jäger: *The* Tom Christiansen?
2000-08-29 12:06:28-06

Jäger: Like the one whom my webpage is a shrine to?
2000-08-29 12:07:01-06

bouncing: His consultary is down the hall, you know.
2000-08-29 12:07:36-06

bouncing: shadowspiller: negative, although I was wearing a Python shirt. (actually, Tom is involved with Python too -- he resells Python training from Mark Lutz)
2000-08-29 13:30:55-06

Jäger of Cubeville compiles M17 for pre-release architectures
2000-08-29 14:05:58-06

Shadowkiller: Jaeger, it would appear that bouncing's (or should I say, ahem, Bouncing's?) handle misspelling engine has been refocused from you to me.
2000-08-29 14:11:39-06

Shadowkiller: Tom Christiansen? A Python person? Impossible! ;)
2000-08-29 14:38:28-06

Shadowkiller: Mmmmm, M17.
2000-08-29 14:38:42-06

Jäger of Cubeville: you should feel special now, Shadowkiller Bitscape of planet Trill.
2000-08-29 15:07:27-06

Shadowkiller: lol. To paraphrase Obi Wan, Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time.
2000-08-29 15:17:38-06

bse: oh dear.. i fear the darkside that is KDE.. i'm afraid to be away from E.. konqueror is quite nice... erk...
2000-08-29 15:42:51-06

bse: oh dear.. i fear the darkside that is KDE.. i'm afraid to be away from E.. konqueror is quite nice... erk...
2000-08-29 15:42:54-06

Jäger of Cubeville: Resist the dark side! Turn back to the Enlightened way!
2000-08-29 15:49:39-06

bse: phew! that was scary..
2000-08-29 16:15:02-06

Bitscape: hmmmm... Where does sawfish fall into this equation? I'm getting to like it quite a lot. :)
2000-08-29 17:59:51-06

bse: i tried saw* once.. didnt really like it.. was some time ago, mind you..
2000-08-29 18:45:38-06

Jäger of Cubeville: AOL is considering offering service on AT&T's cables here in Boulder. So here's the question: which would you least want as your cable provider?
2000-08-30 09:53:20-06

Jäger of Cubeville: [news.cnet.com]
2000-08-30 09:54:12-06

Shadowkiller: Hmmm. Does that mean you would have to use the AOL bloatware to connect?
2000-08-30 10:30:42-06

Jäger just had some 11 meg/sec transfer action going on
2000-08-30 15:10:49-06

bouncing fixes bugs on bigorangebob.com
2000-08-30 15:35:33-06

bse: this new moz skin is funky
2000-08-30 18:36:51-06

Bitscape: Jaeger,
2000-08-30 19:53:37-06

Bitscape: Doh! My finger slipped and hit enter before I was ready. As I was saying... Jaeger, is there a reason all your journal links point to Ziyal?
2000-08-30 19:54:33-06

Jäger: do'h! That's one of the things I didn't change when I updated all of this code from my local version.
2000-08-30 22:12:49-06

Jäger: There. fixed.
2000-08-30 22:16:19-06

Jäger: (thanks, btw. I don't always go around clicking on my own links just to make sure they work.)
2000-08-30 22:17:28-06

Bitscape fears that if he downloads that tarball, he might have nightmares from seeing all the ugly hacks he once implemented.
2000-08-30 23:29:58-06

Bitscape: Ah, maybe before trying to get it to successfully compile, it might help to have something that successfully untars? "gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file"
2000-08-30 23:33:27-06

bse: man.. everyone is getting their hair cut.. omen? or not?.. probably not.. hahah
2000-08-31 05:43:41-06

Jäger: do'h! Sorry about that. I'll upload a new version tonight. fscking dialup. scp *said* it was done.
2000-08-31 08:36:20-06

Jäger points out that his hair is still long and ponytailed
2000-08-31 08:43:04-06

Jäger: Never trust anyone with a /. id greater than 4000.
2000-08-31 08:48:10-06

Shadowkiller suspects that the Rage ssh problems could be caused by the fact that Rage has the non-free version, while most of us are using openssh. Strictly speaking, 100% compatible, but sometimes it causes funny messages. I could be wrong though.
2000-08-31 09:00:26-06

Shadowkiller: Bah! Is that supposed to be an insult? Methinks Jaeger just might be a tad jealous because some of us managed to rake in a little karma. ;)
2000-08-31 09:02:12-06

Shadowkiller: The real question is: How pointy is thy hair?
2000-08-31 09:07:03-06

Jäger: None at all. How about yours?
2000-08-31 09:38:27-06

Jäger: It's not Rage's ssh's fault. (Besides, I'm using the same non-totally-free version at home.) The issue instead is something screwy with my dialup settings or isp that makes it painfully slow to upload *anything* faster than, say, 100 bytes per minute.
2000-08-31 09:39:25-06

Jäger: How do you know you have problems? when gdb cores.
2000-08-31 10:42:28-06

Jäger just named a server Bob.
2000-08-31 12:06:39-06

Jäger: (Ratbert was my first choice, but the sysadmin guy just told me it was taken. So I opted for Bob.)
2000-08-31 12:07:04-06

bse giggles.. best name in the world =P
2000-08-31 13:37:50-06

Jäger: So, anyone up for a Fest at the DSL compound?
2000-08-31 15:13:21-06

Shadowkiller: Me! (But I really should confirm with the parental units first)
2000-08-31 15:19:17-06

bse dreams of one day having something resembling a dsl..
2000-08-31 16:33:09-06

bse tuts at the isdn.. go faster, damnit!
2000-08-31 16:33:27-06

bouncing: festing.org ... ahahahahaaaahahaaaa
2000-08-31 17:01:25-06

Jäger: Ok, that's spooky. For the record, I do not forsee getting my hair cut anytime soon.
2000-08-31 17:35:32-06

bse: im pondering getting mine cut a bit shorter and maybe dyed again (roots.. aaiee..)
2000-08-31 19:15:25-06

Bitscape did enjoy the dye, but... growing out is a little strange. I may do it again though.
2000-08-31 19:24:38-06

Bitscape: Woohoo! Compiled flawlessly on Argo.
2000-08-31 19:27:57-06

Bitscape: BTW, confirmed. Louisville Compound. Saturday night. Fest!!!
2000-08-31 20:18:37-06

Third of Five: goody. Throws a floating-point exception on rage.
2000-08-31 23:50:35-06
