I'm at home now. In my comfy, horribly messy lair. Feels good.
When I drove up, I saw bouncing's car outside, so I knew the expidition had not yet begun. (Yes, late planners, also late starters.) Turns out that we're gonna be eating haystacks here for lunch before heading up. Although it's a bit cloudy outside right now, I think this could be fun. (Although ya never know about these family gatherings... getting two or three of us together, much less all four, can be an iffy proposition.)
So... how did this come about, given what I just put up a few minutes ago? After making my two little piss rants, and attempting unsuccessfully to get something done, I shot off an email to my mentor. The reply came quickly:
[paraphrasing heavily] "So just leave! You don't have to be at work. There's no requirement that you do this, and if there's really nothing urgent for you to do, what's the point? Go home."
After I read the words a couple times, it seemed obvious. I was reminded again why I chose this person as my mentor, and felt grateful because of it.
I asked my employer if there would be any objection to me taking off, given that I have no urgent tasks. Although maybe a slight bit of surprise was shown, there was no objection. (Hey, I mean it is Saturday.) I left just before everyone else went out to lunch (a meal the company was going to pay for, if memory serves). Maybe that's where the hint of surprise came from. :)
So out the door I was, and home I am. It's time to go eat, and then to the mountains. Mmmmm, haystacks...
Thanks mentor, again.
