Resting up

Saturday, March 31, 2001 20:06

As anyone who read the last rambling might guess, I spent a good portion of the day today sleeping. A good thing.

Some days...

Tuesday, March 27, 2001 20:08

Last night, as I drove home, I had my evening all planned out and prioritized real nice. I was going to jog (this time, with plenty of time to complete the cycle), I was going to go to Buddhist class at the Shambhala center, and then I was going to come home, unwind, and possibly take care of a few bills and things.

Fest wraps up, weekend begins

Friday, March 23, 2001 19:38

Now, as I sit here typing at Argo, Jaeger and Gem have departed hours ago (I've decided to follow Jaeger's convention and refer to her by her real name instead of handle; the reasing being the confusion caused by the fact that her notebook computer is also named "Kiesa"). In front of me, and a couple meters to the right, bouncing sits busily playing SimCity 3000. The "Press any button (Sony)" screensaver logo hops around randomly on the NTSC viewing screen.

The Great Fest is now in progress. Jaeger and Kiesa arrived just as I was completing my setup in the living room, which included the film viewing hardware (tv + dvd + 5 speaker setup) as well as Argo.

Recap

Tuesday, March 20, 2001 00:13

It's been a while since I rambled, despite the fact that the last three evenings have been fun filled and action packed. Well, maybe that's why there have been no ramblings. Spend the day/evening in all manner of activity, and there's no time or energy left to ramble after all of it.

eXistenZ (****)

Saturday, March 17, 2001 00:44

Funny this movie wasn't publicized much. I only heard about it from two sources, one of which was a trailer downloaded from a stranger's web site a while back, the other in which it was referenced on a DVD director's commentary. Based on the strength of those, I knew I had to see it. Tonight, while browsing the Video Station's supreme selection, it seemed like the perfect chance. (And yes, when I saw the claim on the back of the box stating something to the effect this movie being above and beyond The Matrix, I was highly skeptical.)

15 Minutes (*** 1/2)

Saturday, March 10, 2001 00:01

This film was a riveting, sometimes bone chilling, satire on our media saturated culture. Although it is hardly the first movie to make these points (one review I glanced over prior to viewing had already compared it to Natural Born Killers), I would say it's very effective.

My dream(s?)

Sunday, March 4, 2001 13:37

Perhaps vaguely inspired by Jaeger's latest title, I shall attempt to recount as much as I can remember of the dream content which passed through my head last night / this morning. It may not make much sense though, because most of what I can recall consists only of fragments and non-translatable emotions.

Bitscape: Russel Crowe wins best actor for his performance in Gladiator.
2001-03-25 21:12:00-07

2001-03-26 08:17:37-07

Jäger: Gladiator was fun, but best picture?
2001-03-26 08:46:08-07

Bitscape: I dunno. Look at what else came out last year (at least that I saw), and there's not a whole lot else to compare it to. Not a huge year for movies (like, say, '99, which featured both The Matrix and Phantom Menace).
2001-03-26 18:12:14-07

Bitscape: The Cell, I suppose.
2001-03-26 18:12:41-07

Bitscape: But I wouldn't generally rate that as best picture either. A good movie? Yes. Best picture? No.
2001-03-26 18:13:41-07

Bitscape reads back through his movielog entries, and finds that based on what he wrote at the time, he would agree with Julia Roberts's best actress award, but probably not Russel Crowe for best actor.
2001-03-26 18:15:39-07

Bitscape: Was it just me, or was that a very convoluted changelog entry?
2001-03-27 21:49:06-07
