Kohan and other randomness

First, before I forget, as requested, I'm posting my films from tonight's Kohan games. Players were: Yanthor, Humblik, Jaeger, myself, and various computer AIs. All games took place on 96x96 randomly generated maps. Quite small, given the number of players, but it kept the games (relatively) short. The games were also observed by Linknoid, whose net connection had too high a latency for him to play.
- Free for all game. In this game, Yanthor, Humblik, and I, plus 3 computers, went for a free-for-all game. In the end, it came down to Yanthor, me, and another computer player. When I thought for sure Yanthor was about to wipe me out completely, he resigned. Turns out the remaining computer AI was whooping him good, and would have taken me out too, had the game gone on.
- Bitscape and Yanthor Win. Bitscape and Yanthor vs Jaeger and Humblik vs a team of 2 AI players. We had a strong starting position and recruited a nice army. Jaeger got sandwiched in the middle. We won.
- 3 Humans (Jaeger, Yanthor, Bitscape) vs 4 AI players. We eventually outwitted and overpowered them.
If we start doing this on a recurring basis, I'm going to have to come up with a less hackish, more oganized method of posting the films. But for now, just sticking them in the directory works ok.
(Hmmmm... Maybe a generic per-rambling file attach would be a nice feature for the lounge code. As of now, it's on my to-be-implemented wishlist.)
Other news from the life of Bitscape....
Today, I drove to Boulder for the last day of Wherehouse Music's store closing sale. (The location on the northeast corner of 28th and Pearl, where every business seems doomed to failure. I've seen at least 3 stores go out of business there during the past decade.)
As I suspected, things were discounted even more than they had been on Saturday. 40-60% off, depending on the section. Results of my shopping spree: (Yes, we like the UL tag tonight!)
Amber -- Naked. (Linking to a fan site because the official one is a bunch of useless unnavigable crap.) Though the title may lead one to believe otherwise, this disc, in fact, did NOT come from the "adult" section. I think nearly half the songs on this cd comprise a staple of the 102.1x playlist (They regularly play even more of her other songs that aren't on that site's list.) After the 50% discount, the price came to $9. A reasonable deal.
When I ripped it and started to play the music, I got something of a semi-surprise. I guess I should have expected this, but the thought didn't occur. It turns out that none of the songs on the album have the same mixes as those played over the air. Very different, in fact. I guess you have to be a 1337 DJ to get the radio dance versions. (That, or buy a bunch of overpriced singles.)
I have mixed feelings about this. I like the album versions too (some more than others), and enjoy a little variety, but I was expecting to get what I heard on the radio. Even if I can hear the radio versions every other day in my car right now, part of the reason for buying cds is so I can listen to it whenever I want, even after this stuff goes out of style next year. Oh well. The album mixes are good too, just not the same.- Lords of Acid -- Lust Stript. I like their shit. People at the club said the concert sucked when they came to town last fall. (Since I wasn't there, I can't verify.) Personally, I like their studio work. $14 / 2 = $7. Bought it.
- Korn -- Untouchables. I like Korn, but until today, I wasn't crazy about them enough to buy a disc, until today, when one could be had for $9.
- Hollow Man DVD. $8
Maybe I bought a bit more than I "should" have, given the current income situation, but... It was fun. There's something psychologically addictive about finding good deals like that, even if it's just because we've been conditioned by society to do so. And now I'm enjoying the music. Good for me.
Tomorrow afternoon, I'm scheduled to meet up with $mentor[0]. Such encounters always prove worthwhile, and occassionally can even trigger an epiphany or two.
At this point in my life, this well-stated advice sounds like it would be good for me as well.
Speaking of epiphanies, last night, I may have had one or two before I went to bed. But I really don't feel like writing about them on the web just yet. How's that for an anti-climax?
Time now for one of the following:
- Sleep
- A B5 episode
- Another caffeinated beverage over a game of Zelda.
Just which it will be, I'll figure out shortly. That's all for now.
