More Info
With this movie, we have what is arguably the best CGI
animation to date. Fluidly rendered faces -- human
faces -- landscapes, animals, castles, and, um, fairy tale
characters. Lots of fairy tale characters.
Set in a strange amalgamation of every "Once Upon a
Time..." world of storybook fantasy, the movie tells
the tale of a reclusive orge's adventures to be the grudging hero
on a quest, beat the bad guys, and... well... save a
princess. (What else did you expect?)
The lead voice actors are Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy, so
yes, there are plenty of silly, irreverant gags throughout the
film. Fortunately, the jokes managed to not detract from the
story. In fact, they help carry things along nicely in
a unique, not overly serious way.
Fun story. Interesting twists. Tons of poke-funny
little references to well-known fairy tales. Just an
all-around good film. That's all.
