Capital A, capital G.
Today was the last day at work for a coworker, who is leaving to return to his home country of Taiwan. The whole department went out to lunch in his honor to wish him well. I can't say I spent a huge amount of time working with this guy over the course of my time there, but whenever I did, he was very professional and fun to be around. And of course, at all those times when some odd hardware part was needed, he did his best to find it. As has been said by others, he will be missed.
After an overall relaxing and enjoyable workday today, I did my duty as a good little consumer, and on my way home, stopped off at the the brand new Best Buy for its grand opening. Yes, as if the one down in Westminster wasn't trouble enough already, they now have a branch just blocks from the office, right on my way home to tempt and allure on a nightly basis. Woe to the DVD budget.
As I walked in the door, a couple of blue-shirted peons handing out coupons. 10% off all music and movies, 10% off any item over $25, good today and tomorrow only. Hmmmm..
I toured the store. The massive wall-sized tv at the very rear of the store is the most eye-catching thing in the place. (Funny, I didn't notice a price tag on that particular model.) The $3000+ HDTVs back there were too crisp, sharp, and big to believe.
I'm happy to report that their DVD section is significantly larger than the one in the Westminster store. Lots, and lots of scifi films, music videos and all those other genres too. They even had several copies of eXistenZ. (I had been thinking about ordering it online because none of the local brick and mortar stores seemed to have it for sale. Until now.) I snatched one of those up in a heartbeat.
Wandered through the music section. Bought a copy of Dream Theater's Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory. It's like progressive metal on speed, or something. Purchased my items with the happy bank account depletion card at a 10% discount. Continued on home.
While listening to my new Dream Theater cd followed by other various Musics, I attempted to bring my room into some semblence of order again. I had partial success. It's a little better in here, but that job is still unfinished.
Ate something resembling haystacks with the family, then commenced with a viewing of eXistenZ, for which bouncing and my dad also attended. Dad left after about the first 5 minutes. bouncing and I remained in our seats, spellbound, from start to finish.
After end credits rolled, and a few moments of silence during which our minds recovered their composure, bouncing uttered something along the lines of "That was one wacky movie."
Indeed it was. Indeed it was.
Tomorrow: Big event. Holiday Inn. Intersection of I-70 and Chambers. Kevin Sorbo. Virginia Hey. Films, Ferengi, insane lunatics in alien costumes, peddlers of odd and obscure merchandise, and all other manner of craziness. Sounds like my kind of place.
So... bright and early. The earlier, the better. Night now.
