Alright, so everyone said this movie was crappy.
Finally, I decided I could take the suspense no longer.
I had to see just how crappy it was. Boy, was I in for
a surprise!
It's films like this that prove that you should really
see things for yourself before judging them. Now I
just wish I had realized this earlier, and seen it back
when it was in theatres on the big screen. It's
obvious that so many of those artfully composed shots
were meant to be viewed larger than life. Blown away.
As well as being filled with wonderful technical
achievements, this really is a masterpiece of
quality story telling. Some quite profound insights
behind the obvious literal representations to be
explored. I think I'll have to go read the rest of the
book to glean for further detail.
(Best not to go into too much detail about the
intricacies of the plot; I wouldn't want to
spoil any of the juicy details for anyone who
hasn't yet seen it. Just go in prepared for an
experience unlike any you've ever seen before.)
Well, what can I say about John Travolta's acting? He
really does play the role of Terl with an understated
grandeur befitting to the role. The rest of the cast
was excellent as well.
Did the movie have a few flaws? Yes. But then, so
does every movie. In the case of this film, the
strengths far outweigh the weaknesses. If you
really want to know, and discover what I did, go see
this film for yourself. Some great works of art are
never appreciated by the public for what they are until
long after their creator is dead. Something to think
about.
