Content-free week

Truly. Not a single rambling since last Friday night. (Okay, technically Saturady morning.) Barely a Content Collective square or two. Content Solutions.... Well, I've been all but absent from that as well. I'm not totally certain, but I suspect this may be a record for the year 2000 in the longest amount of time spent without a single rambling from me. Not a peep. It almost smacks of a flashback to summer/fall 1999.

So.... Now that we're here, what has my life consisted of for the past week? Well, last weekend was.....

Hell, I don't remember most of it. Must think harder. There was a new X Files episode on Sunday night. Um... Watched several DVD episodes of season 2, and rewatched a bit of season 1. (But no, I didn't reach the end of S2, and I didn't watch quite as many as some readers might suspect.)

I've become re-addicted to CivCTP. Started a kickass Canadian civilazation last Saturday. Ruler name: "Alanis". Playing on level Emperor. (I'm too chicken to play on Deity.) Map size: Huge. Bloodlust on. Several hours spent at that on Saturday. Sunday too. And each night this week. Gradually grew into an enormous empire. (Cause on map "Huge", there's little physical limitation to stop you.) Wiped out Native Americans. Later, totally annhilated the Romans. (I was in the genetic age, they were renaissance. Wimps. Hah.) As of last night, I reached the year 2000, and am in a nasty fight with the Irish. Sent infectors to spread plagues through their cities. Nasty biological warfare. I'm playin dirty now, man. They're still back in the modern age, but not quite so easy to conquer. I'll beat em, but it might take a while.

Um... let's see, what else have I done? Well, the thing we call "work", obviously.

[The brilliant music of Queensryche streams out of xmms and into the speakers.]

Bought a movie, on... I think it was Wednesday. What Dreams May Come. A totally rockin film, but in the case of this picture, not even the DVD can come close to how awesome it was on the big screen. All those massive, sweeping vistas look kind of teensy in letterbox on my tv. I can't imagine how awful pan-and-scan would be. Chopping such artfully composed shots would be pure sacrelige. Nothing less.

Well, let's see... Rage has been up, obviously. Up sans DNS, that is. I can point Argo's resolv.conf to Rage to make it work from here. Maybe redmond will freeze over one of these days. Who knows?

Hmmmmm......

But I am creating content tonight!

Such as it is.

What else have I done during this content drought that my readers would be interested in? A little good porn surfing, I suppose. Yeah, whatever.

And as I look around my room, I see that it has once again reverted to the virtual status of junkyard trash dump. How the hell does that happen anyway? I certainly didn't make it that way. That much is certain.

Torn open envelopes and papers on the floor. Various books scattered about. Cds that have either come out of ripping or are queued to go into it are in little piles all around. An almost empty container of medium cheese-n-salsa dip on the dresser. I think it's been sitting there for a week. Probaly got bacteria breeding in there like tribbles by now. On top of it sits a little plate with a tiny dab of fried rice, hard and dry as a rock, with a pair of chopsticks on in. There was no place else to put it, I say! What a sad state of affairs.

Yeah, this is content.

Mine is the way of the Content Farmer. What is Your Way?

Or maybe this week, I'm the bacteria farmer.

Receipts and bags on the desk, crap on the floor, junk on the shelves.... Arrrggggh! This weekend calls for a cleaning spree. Yes, indeed.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to start shopping for gifts sometime soon too. So far this year, I'm doing better at that than usual. Yes, I've already bought one present! Normally, my first purchase wouldn't be made until AT LEAST the 20th of December. There must be a disturbance in the force.

Moving on to more topics...

Been doing more heavy thinking lately about the work I do, and whether it is a "good force", in which the purpose is to help people, or a "dark force", which involves screwing people over, dumbing things down, and generally becoming part of the problem rather than helping to improve it. I was saying in my rambling a couple weeks ago, feeding on consumers' sustained ignorance rather than helping to educate them.

I have not reached a final resolution. Maybe there are no final resolutions. What I do think I've reached is perhaps a slightly broader understanding of the shit that's involved. Complex, it is. No cut and dried, "This is the right thing to do."

Blah. I don't think I'm articulating a lot here. Just uttering mostly vagueries without specifics or certain convictions. In a way, when one is debating for a single specific side, it becomes easier to state clear points, because you know what you're arguing for, and you know your objective. When rambling like this, trying to keep all sides of the whole picture in mind, it can just turn into a watered down soup.

Oh well. Maybe I don't feel like going through all the specifics here.

...

Bleeeh.

...

I seem to be short on further content.

Well, it's Friday. I'm glad. Now I terminate this one.
