Millennial Fest

Sunday, December 31, 2000 19:58

The fest was officially scheduled to begin last night at 2100, although by the time I actually got Argo powered down in the Louisville Compound, the clock read 2109. I had been attempting to diagnose why my accelerated 3d drivers had been refusing to work ever since switching from my manual tarball install to the Debian XFree86 packages of X4.

Inspiration

Thursday, December 28, 2000 17:50

Well, I suppose work went fairly well today, considering that I got virtually zero sleep last night. Aside from the feeling of having been run over by a tractor for most of the morning and afternoon, I felt pretty good. Hah.

Whew!

Thursday, December 28, 2000 05:52

Well, if I just did everything right, there should be a new lounge now...

Content drought

Wednesday, December 27, 2000 22:49

In the realm of Bitscape's Lounge, THIS is what we call a content drought. Or at least the closest we've seen in recent memory.

Yes indeed. So today after work, I took Tobias on a little journey to what seems to have become one of my favorite locations for acquiring little treasures: Best Buy.

Content-free week

Friday, December 15, 2000 18:48

Truly. Not a single rambling since last Friday night. (Okay, technically Saturady morning.) Barely a Content Collective square or two. Content Solutions.... Well, I've been all but absent from that as well. I'm not totally certain, but I suspect this may be a record for the year 2000 in the longest amount of time spent without a single rambling from me. Not a peep. It almost smacks of a flashback to summer/fall 1999.

Server outages, brain farts, and blob-like masses from outer space

A rambling tonight. Although I don't know just how long this one will end up being.

Little rambling

Tuesday, December 5, 2000 01:04

Well, you know the drill these days. The content is in the collective. But I figured I better again not let my ramblings fall into total neglect. There were two sizable entries over the weekend though. How nice.

No more Sub for you, Mr. Text

Sunday, December 3, 2000 01:59

Disclaimer: Yes, this rambling consists of yet another ecstatic glowing review of this week's mythology. It may or may not also contain other content. And yes, big spoilers. So beware.

The last month

Saturday, December 2, 2000 01:54

It seems strange that December is here so quickly. Why, just a little while ago, I was watching The Matrix on VHS pan-and-scan at 4am to hail in the new year (the day all the power plants were supposed to explode, cars stop running, and the toasters cease to work), after which my brain felt so inspired that I drafted a little stack of ambitiously aspiring resolutions on the spot.

A little bit'o'ramble

Friday, December 1, 2000 00:42

Well, um, I guess it's old news now. The Content Collective's data went boom this morning. I screwed up, and the result wasn't pretty. For more info and details, read my recent additions to the Content Collective.

2000-12-05 17:32:11-07

Zan Lynx: I think all projects have that stage, bouncing. First, "Just get it working." Then, "It would be nice if it did this -- and this -- and this other thing. That should be easy, right?" Hehe.

2000-12-21 12:18:05-07

Jäger: We had trouble doing that, but I'm not certian that it's not possible at all.
2000-12-21 12:27:27-07

bse: when my friend connects to me it says "this is not a demo server" and when i connect to him it fails and goes back to the menu.. hmmm..
2000-12-21 13:46:20-07

bouncing wraps Perl's open, close and split functions to die on error.
2000-12-21 22:40:55-07

Bitscape watches the scenes which were deleted from The Cell because the studio thought they were ovely disturbing. Freakin out.
2000-12-21 23:54:58-07

bse: did bitscape buy dvd's yesturday too? heh.. (i cant resolve the festing.org network here in windows =( )
2000-12-22 01:04:26-07

Jäger: Indeed, there are advantages of education...
2000-12-22 01:23:14-07

Bitscape has become a dvd freak lately. Almost seems like it's time to declare a moritorium on purchases until I can fully digest what is here.
2000-12-22 21:18:14-07

bse: wheee.. the network works! but not in windows.. oh well..
2000-12-23 16:45:34-07

bse: bah.. potato has no console-apt package.. maybe i should upgrade to woody..

bse: gah.. debians XFree doesnt like my geforce2.. strangely, mandrake's did =o
2000-12-23 19:15:14-07

bse: so maybe i should upgrade to woody and get XFree 4
2000-12-23 19:15:44-07

Bitscape: That's what I'm running.
2000-12-24 03:34:11-07

Bitscape: Really, really late nights and Dark City do go well together, don't they?
2000-12-24 03:34:57-07

bouncing: I dunno about you kids and your woody distribution.
2000-12-24 15:27:15-07

bouncing: festing.org ... the lost domain
2000-12-24 16:49:08-07

bouncing: Jaeger, your website has serious usability problems
2000-12-24 16:52:39-07

bouncing has ... updated ... his website.
2000-12-24 17:04:29-07

Jäger: what's wrong with my website?
2000-12-24 20:42:10-07

J&aum;ger: You have a content solutions FAQ, bouncing? You need help.
2000-12-24 20:44:41-07

Jäger: You have a content solutions FAQ, bouncing? You need help.
2000-12-24 20:44:52-07

bouncing: When I click on "Content," half the content listing is below the "Content" link, the other half is in the middle table cell. Same for Hacks. And finding a particular changelog entry from a while ago is whether cumbersome.
2000-12-24 22:21:06-07

Jäger: hey, I'll be the first to admit my interface is cumbersome.
2000-12-25 22:04:02-07

bouncing: It occurs to me that bitscape and I have inverted distribution installation: at home, I run Red Hat and at work, I run Debian.
2000-12-26 08:34:04-07

bouncing: Anyone wanna do lunch?
2000-12-26 11:04:31-07

Jäger barely restrains himself from rioting in the streets
2000-12-26 21:49:59-07

Bitscape: Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that Jaeger and I have simultaniously, over the past few hours, been enjoying the great productions of Chris Carter?
2000-12-27 01:43:23-07

Bitscape: Anyone want to place bets on which of these events will happen first? festing.org DNS returns to normal... or... the new version of Bitscape's Lounge gets posted? heehee.
2000-12-27 01:46:31-07

bse: i'll put my bets on the Lounge ;)
2000-12-27 09:28:03-07

bouncing: I'm on the Lounge with that one too.
2000-12-27 09:35:31-07

Jäger: I submitted the form. It should work. But no, Network Solutions isn't doing anything.
2000-12-27 16:54:50-07

bse: no doubt they will email you saying you dont own said domain. from personal experience ;)
2000-12-27 19:58:02-07

bse: the absurd people, the absurd people, its all relative to the size of your /etc/hosts; you cant see the DNS for the NIS; and you cant hold your laptop on your knees...
2000-12-27 20:03:34-07

bse: or should that be the NSI? oops..
2000-12-27 20:04:35-07

Bitscape: lol. ...there's no time to discriminate; hate every Windows user that's in your way; the absurd people, the absurd people...
2000-12-27 23:06:46-07

Bitscape: With any luck, the new lounge should be online before the end of the evening.
2000-12-27 23:07:22-07

Bitscape tests an extremely rough version of the new Lounge on Rage.
2000-12-28 02:47:33-07

Bitscape: This is scary. I'm seriously considering going straight through the night and into work in the morning with zero sleep.
2000-12-28 02:55:06-07

Bitscape: Looks like bse and bouncing placed their bets correctly.
2000-12-28 05:41:48-07

bse: woohoo! do i get a prize? :)
2000-12-28 08:23:49-07

bouncing: I want a Sun box!
2000-12-28 17:37:32-07

bse: you know, i thought the "nearby content" read "Nearly Content"... =o
2000-12-28 19:34:24-07

bouncing: Why does "Nearby Content" change so drasticly when I go to the movielog?
2000-12-28 20:16:34-07

bse: oh my.. movielog also displays the past 2months worth of solutions too!
2000-12-28 20:37:51-07

bse: hmm.. and what is an acquarium? shouldnt it be aquarium?
2000-12-28 20:38:30-07

Bitscape: rotfl. ya. I kan spel. Truely, honest, I kan!
2000-12-29 04:03:47-07

Bitscape: The disproportionate content shown next to movielog is a bit of an accident in the way it was designed. That part obviously needs some tweaks.
2000-12-29 04:10:50-07

bouncing: You kids use the term 'content' very loosely.
2000-12-29 11:43:45-07

bouncing visits Bitscape's Lounge in Opera... Hmmm... Overall not bad, but it could use some tweaks.
2000-12-29 11:46:48-07

bouncing checks on his car's repair.
2000-12-29 14:54:16-07

Bitscape: Well bouncing, aren't you the one who claims to have come up with the "Content Solutions" title?
2000-12-30 02:53:17-07

bse finds his Palm Vx highly useful =D
2000-12-30 09:43:27-07

bse wants to hear his underworld Everything Everythign dvd in real 5.1 sound. some tracks sound better in 2.0 adn some sound better in 5.1. very odd.
2000-12-30 09:52:23-07

Bitscape: While I'm grabbing stuff, I thought I'd ask: Does anyone who is going to be an the fest tonight want me to download anything over the DSL and bring it in? I figure 2.4.0test12 is a given. Anything else, anyone?
2000-12-30 18:06:05-07

Humblik: I could use the xgalaga source, but that really isn't the big of a download.
2000-12-30 21:47:43-07

Humblik: hmm, guess I'm a little late.
2000-12-30 21:48:01-07

bse: Moo
2000-12-30 22:30:39-07

bouncing: I thought Jaeger was going to be getting DSL last summer?
2000-12-30 22:37:34-07

Jäger: My parents seem unexcited about the possibility of bandwidth and therefore unlikely to pay for it. So I'm stuck with using theirs when I come home.
2000-12-31 05:40:53-07

Jäger: Testing some new bugfixes...
2000-12-31 07:04:30-07

Jäger: okie dokie... i really need to drop this all into cvs.
2000-12-31 07:10:22-07

Linknoid: What time is this #fest going to start?
2000-12-31 20:22:33-07

bse: hmm.. finally updated /etc/hosts on foobar =D
2000-12-31 20:45:57-07

bse: finally, reading the content on a nice moniter and not having to lean over and try to get the mouse to cooperate =D
2000-12-31 20:47:01-07

bse: nwo i have to think up a project to hack on to fill my time.. my mind is blank..
2000-12-31 20:48:11-07

bse: Quake3ing while listening to manson is quite the rush =o
2000-12-31 21:26:28-07
