Makes a boy stupid, stupid, and.... uh, stupid? Yes, well. So be it.

I now officially announce that the season finales for all quality television programming in spring of 2000 are concluded. It's a cruel, cruel summer. Leaving me here on my own, it's a cruel. Cruel summer. Ahhhhh. Stop!

So anyway, I was joined for the Voyager finale by one whose television reception situation is even less fortunate than my own. Unimatrix Zero, which I would rank in the "average" category as far as Voyager episodes go. Of course, towards the end, I was very much reminded of Best of Both Worlds. Seeing those three in full borg attire and makeup was in the wacky zone. And now, we're left to wait all summer to find out what happens. :(

:)

After the episode, Jaeger and I hung out and discussed various things such as X Files episodes, DVDs, moments from the ancient past, and other miscellanious items. We were eventually joined by bouncing, who also contributed to the discussion.

At nearly 2300, Jaeger announced that he needed to depart, and I needed to attempt to minimize my sleep deprivation (which I am now NOT doing with great success), and so the gathering concluded. What a badly structured sentence that was.

I ponder ever more seriously the idea of getting a DVD player. A grand technology with a nasty little thorn, it is. Will the temptation become too great? Has it already? This morning I got a friendly email from a reader who encouraged me to purchase such a device. The appeal is strong. Very strong. I guess I'm just an entertainment junkie.

I mean, movies, tv, and shit like that really do form a major component of the modern geek lifestyle. I know that's kind of a "Well Duh" statement, but I was just thinking about it. Today at lunch, the bulk of the conversation: Movies, DVD's, etc. Fairly typical. Not a bad thing. I mean, besides just being interesting in and of themselves, in any given group of random people, there's probably a better chance of finding an area of common interest when discussing movies than with any other topic.

Tonight's discussion with Jaeger, bouncing, and myself (all three of whom, to one degree or another, have attempted to curb our contributions to the MPAA after its acts of tyranny): Quite a bit of our conversation consisted of discussing movies and related items, even as passing reference the main topic was something else. That's just normal.

So what happens if we do actually carry out this supposed boycott (which we have all breeched a time or two, or three), and avoid the movie cartels? Eventually, will the well dry up? Will there be nothing left? One wonders. How did anyone living in the pre-motion picture are survive and get along? No computers, no tv, no movies, and (going back farther) no recorded music. One trembles at the thought.

Yes, well, I have found myself seriously tempted to do the DVD thing. Seriously. Would that be a total betrayal of the cause? I know one reader has already sent an email, after last night's mention. I dunno.

I'm getting too tired to think straight. Must sleep now.
