These are exciting times to be living in

True words indeed. Looks like I'm not the only one playing the "throw out just enough material to whet the readers' appetite, then let them guess the rest" game anymore. ;)

lol. I certainly had that one coming.

Well, now that I've typed a nice big email during which "The Screen Behind the Mirror" played through completely, I feel the need to choose the next selection. How about.... Hmmmm. Should I keep it a secret and let the readers guess? Nah. I shall now play.... Oh sure.

Wesley Willis. One of the most talented artists to grace music in the past century. Such precision! Why.... these lyrical compositions might even rivil the work of Shakespeare! And that voice...

McDonald's hamburgers are the worst
they are worse than burger king
a big mac has 26 grams of fat
a quarter pounder has 28 grams of fat

Rock and Roll McDonalds
Rock and Roll McDonalds
Rock and Roll McDonalds
Rock and Roll McDonalds

Rock over London
Rock on Chicago
Wheaties. The breakfast of champions!

Now THAT is what I call a masterpiece! lol.

And the arrangement in the musical accompanyment is irreplacable. rotfl.

Moving on... :)

...in reverse chronological order. I ate supper from the McDonald's drivethrough tonight. Yum. Love that Big'n'Tasty sandwich. And those McNuggets. Mmmmmm. Very satisfying. :)

...and back some more. Every day is an adventure. Mail transport agents are insane beasts, be they on little desktop machine's like Dagobah, web servers like Rage, or internal corporate intranets. They hate me, no matter where I go. Fortunately, they don't hate everybody, so if you have somebody around who they happen to like (or if you can convince them they're dealing with somebody they like through digital replication, even if they aren't), they might just be nice. Maybe.

What else? ... Oh yes. For the past three days, Dagobah has been crashing at exactly the same time every morning while I've been in the shower. I mean hard. Total freeze, requiring a cold reboot.

Normally, when something like that happens on a Linux system, and you aren't experimenting with wierd device drivers or anything, the first possibility that comes to mind is faulty hardware.

Well, this morning, I was really sick of it (I was sick of it before too, but I always needed to go to work, and when I came home and the thing was working fine again, the urgency to find out what was wrong and fix it immediately wasn't there). I did some examinating this morning after reboot, and narrowed it down to the checksecurity script. Then I had to go to work.

I left myself a nice little reminder in the form of a console login prompt, with the bootup messages still displayed on the screen, so I would remember to look at it again tonight.

Some more examination, and a couple crashes later determined that it was happening right around a diff command and a couple file renames. Strange. Locked up everytime I ran it. I finally deleted the log files in question, and let it make them again from scratch. Worked fine after that. Stranger and stranger.

My best guess is that my hard drive might be going bad. Perhaps soon would be a good time to boot from a floppy and run badblocks.

I've sort of put the new year's resolution about acquiring new PC hardware on hold for a while. (That seems to be happening with most of the new year's resolutions these days... hmmm...) But in this case, I have a good reason. Let's just say I might be able to get some stuff at significantly reduced prices if I wait a bit. Yes, being a corporate minion can have its perks. But right now, it's "wait and see" mode.

So, here's to hoping this poor baby manages to hold together for just a few more months. Fingers crossed...

And now, I think I'll try to catch up on the room arrangement department. The floor's a mess, there's garbage and debris all over the place on top of every flat surface, and I have a few pictures acquired last Sunday that need a new home. :)

After that, it's reading time! Last night, I finished Macbeth Act 1, tonight... we'll just have to see. :)
