A weekend approacheth. How very novel. :)
(And that smiley face can be interpreted by each reader, however they want to. And why would I say that? I just like drawing really dumb references to things only me and a few other people might know about it. It's my way. Thank you.)
So now, I am faced with a mission. A mission which this writer seems to be confronted with almost every Friday: Find a way to make this weekend suck less than the last one did.
The last one.... The last one.... Holy shit, that seems like a century ago! I never thought so much could occur in one week. Until I started work at eSoft, that is. :)
Last weekend... vague memories of a dance party? Something about purchasing a book? Visitors to the Compound, to whom I refused to make any comments regarding anything I had done or written? Was all that stuff in another life? I just have these memories..... Can't ... get... rid... of... the... memories. AAaaaaaghhh!
Speaking of memories, today I just couldn't get this one song out of my head. It was a song from a cd I bought way, way, way long ago. Just sitting there in my cubicle, trying to get work done, and this damn song was just invading my brain. Well, I kept it at bay, but it kept returning. I haven't even listened to it for years. Except last Sunday night. I had played a couple tracks from the cd after the Simpson's, and before the X Files. (Because I refuse to subject my brain to annoying crap, no matter how hard Fox tries to force it down everyone's throats.)
That was it. I listened to two, or maybe three songs. Then I put the cd away. And just out of nowhere, it comes to invade my brain today. Nuts.
[Typing from memory]
So tell, baby tell
Your true heart
And say what you'll say
when you're all alone
I'm trying
Trying to try, and feel you
And see if I see
I'm feeling alone
And all I want is
to get through
And maybe you'll see that the way
you're leaving me won't do
It's like I'm blowing kisses in the wind
Givin you love that you haven't been given
I cross my heart
and hope to die
I only wish that you would love me like I
Blowing kisses in the wind
I'm waiting waiting waiting waiting for you
It's like blowing blowing kisses
Ok, that's enough. We won't go into the second verse.
So now, everyone's probably wondering: Well who's the artist? What's the song called? What album is it from? Where can I buy it? (Not!)
Well I'm leaving that up to YOU. If anyone can find out: (a) the name of the artist who originally sung this song, (b) the name of the song itself, and (c) the album it was on (bonus points for the track number), and send that info to me in an email (this address only), the first person to do so will get a prize.
What prize? Yes, it is a pathetic little prize, because I just thought up this goofy idea while typing this, but it is a prize nonetheless. For the person who sends the first email with correct info, I will publish, in my links section, ANY url chosen by that person. [Barring any contractual agreements or NDA's I may have signed or otherwise agreed to. ;) ]
So if you've always wanted me to link to some page published by some hideous company headquartered in Redmond, now's your chance. Or if you've always wanted to see your favorite porn site linked to from Bitscape's Lounge, this is the time. Or anything else you can think of. Send me the correct info, and a url of your choice, and I WILL publish it.
There. That's how I make my weekend suck less. I dream up ridiculous contests so readers will feel like they're getting something by visiting here, AND I get a lazy way to add a much-overdue update to my links section, all without even having to take the time to go and find them myself. Isn't that a clever scheme?
I'll just see how clever I think it is when one week from tonight, I'll have still not received a single response, because everyone will have seen through this transparent little ploy. Ah well. I entertain myself.
(Oh, and if anyone read the lyric snippet above and instantly recognized it, you need help almost as seriously as I do.)
So, on with the subject: How to make this weekend suck less. Options... Always options. Well, I good spend some time brushing up on my Javascript, and I probably will, thanks to somebody's coolness. ;) I could again tackle the Version 2.0 codebase and try to turn it into something I'd feel comfortable posting publicly. Certainly possible.
I could scour the city in search of more frivolous entertainment, similar to last Saturday night's strange experiment, except perhaps come a little bit better prepared. Of course, the problem with that is always transportation. [Note to self: Investigate ways to improve this situation.]
Hmmmm. I suppose I could even do some of that. I'm loathe to visit car dealers though. Perhaps visit some web sites. There's an idea! At least find out some possibilities of transcending the pedestrian lifestyle. Yes, that's on the todo list.
I could always clean my hard disk. Bitscape's home directory is quite a hideous mess at the moment. Sad to say. And then there's the idea of buying a new hard drive so I'll have an actual place to put all this shit I download.
Hmmm. All of the above, and I'm sure there are things I haven't even imagined that could happen this weekend. That's what happened last weekend. Such is the glamorous life of one who works at eSoft.
(And a P.S. to the little babble to the recruiter last week: Actually, I won't get back to you. If I happen to bump into someone clueful who needs employment, their resume is going to this place. OTOH, if I have the misfortune of seeing any MSCE programmer wannabe's, they're all yours. :) )
