Delicious asparagus

This morning, I woke up at 10:00, took a shower, and decided I had ample time for a little errand.

Took my bike out, where the weather was overcast with very light precipitation, and headed to Akin's Natural Foods. It was a quick trip.

When I got there, I knew exactly what I wanted. At first, when I reached the produce section, I was afraid they might not have it, and I would have to resort to something else. But there, on the top shelf, a few bundles of fresh asparagus remained. Pricey, yes. But worth it.

It took me a minute to find the nuts section, where I got a nice bag of pistacios. I winced at the amount, but not horribly. I've earned this, dammit.

I took my items to the front, where the clerk commented that I was buying her two favorite things in the store. (An opening for a pickup line? Maybe, but as you all know, I'm an idiot at these things.)

I replied that I had been jonesing for some asparagus since last night, to which she smiled. I handed her $11, and completed the transaction.

Outside, I rinsed the asparagus off with my bike water, and ate several stocks on the way home. Best asparagus ever. Nice thick, flavorful stocks. It was worth it.

Now I'm munching on some of the pistachios. This ought to hold back the urge to ingest too much of that dubiously labeled "food" while I'm on the job today. In addition to the yumminess factor, if it prevents another night of sneezing and yucky feeling like last night, it will be doubly worth it.

Granted, given my current employment situation, I probably won't be able to afford eating organic all the time. Special occassions, perhaps. But some non-organic compromises (such as ordinary grocery store spinach) would still be a vast improvement.

Now I shall prepare my mind and body for the six hours of work ahead. Crappy food and baseball annoyances aside, I still like the gas station job, and the people there.

P.S. When I returned, Yanthor and Anya had arrived back from their trip. But having just gotten in the door, Yanthor is now leaving again. His destination? Denver. The irony is too hilarious. Now I'll be the one staying in Nebraska.
