Saturday afternoon, I returned to Colorado, where I made ready to pack as many possessions as I could fit into my car to bring back to Lincoln on Sunday. Luckily, after another round of thinning down, everything except the larger furniture made it.

Sunday morning, I discovered a voicemail message on my cell phone. It was from the manager of the gas station where I had applied, less than a block away from Yanthor and Anya's residence. He wanted to talk to me about possible work there. When I talked to Yanthor, I found out he had also called their place in an attempt to contact me.

Always good to have another option, just in case the tech possibility didn't work out. So this morning, I called the manager there. He literally offered me a job over the phone, and said if I wanted, I could start working there today. Since I had the interview this afternoon, I obviously wasn't going to do that, but I said I'd let him know tomorrow morning.

I went for a nice bike ride in the sunshine, and got back with plenty of time to prepare for the interview. While I was gone, Yanthor had emailed and attempted to call me. He suggested that it might be a good idea to have a few copies of my resume to bring in, and offered to print them at his office and give them to me. (The place where I was to interview was literally a block away from his workplace.)

Since bike sweat probably isn't the best way to make a first impression, I showered again, dressed up, and drove to downtown Lincoln, where I retrieved the resumes from Yanthor. Then, it was on to the interview!

I think it went quite well. What else can I say about it at this point?

There were 3 people besides me in the room. The CEO, the CTO, and the head of software development (I think). It looks like the type of company and work environment are about as good a fit for me as I'm likely to find in the business world. The project they have looks like quite a fascinating challenge, technically speaking.

Since I know you all are dying to know what this company is, I'll go ahead and give the url. But I'd rather not have this domain show up in their referer log, so you'll have to paste. www.nanonation.net

If I do work there, it will almost certainly be on a contract basis in the short term, and depending on how things go with that, it could turn into a more permanent position. They'll let me know in a couple of days whether they want me to work on the project.

The only thing that makes me less than certain I'll get an offer is that my experience in the specific area they're wanting for this project is rather limited. However, that might be offset by the fact that I exhibited (I think) a generally high level of proficiency, and one of them even remarked that if this particular project doesn't work out, they might have other stuff to do for which my skills might be suitable.

I'm almost going nuts with nervous energy right now. Now that I've updated loyal readers on the latest happenings, I'm going to go out and get a little exercise before tonight's scifi gathering. Here's to changing times.
