My second foray into Celebrity Tarot. The Conspiracist.

The Conspiracist

This was inspired in part by some of Tim's recent writings on the subject of conspiracy theory as a possible form of spirituality. The Conspiracist here is depicted as running, most likely trying to get away from something as a result of paranoia. He wears the face of Fox Mulder, the pop culture poster child of belief in the wierd and outlandish. In the sky is a full moon, which brings out the wild and unpredictable side of man. Within the moon there is the face of an alien, which could represent the conspiracy theorist's heightened awareness of a universal consciousness, or it could be a more literal symbol of extraterrestrial visitation, at least in the mind of our subject.

In an attempt to keep malevolent radio signals from tracking or controlling him, The Conspiracist wears a tinfoil hat. But unbeknownst to him, the presence of the tinfoil might actually be attracting some of the very forces from which he wants to escape, as evidenced by the beam of green light connecting the tip of his hat to the satellite.

The jets flying through the sky could be military, an entity the conspiracist strongly distrusts. They might also be creating mysterious chemtrails across the sky, which could leave him wondering about their meaning.

At the bottom right, a bunch of skyscrapers light up the night sky, from which the conspiracist might also be running. This could be indicative of his self-imposed isolation from mainstream society; perhaps he fears humanity in general, or maybe he's just tired of civilazation and its corruption. Looming behind him, the White House and the Capitol dome combine -- the ever-present arm of the state whose reach seems impossible to escape. At the far left, we see an image of UFO abduction, one of the conspiracisy theorist's greatest nightmares. Perhaps he has experienced such an incident himself. Maybe it just enters his dreams. Or maybe it's part of his future.

At the top of the card, the words "Paranoia", "Truth", "Insanity", and "Awareness" are jumbled together. This reflects the conspiracist's confused state of mind, and his inability to differentiate one from another. On some level, he possesses a greater awareness of certain patterns of truth than the rest of society, but his thoughts become jumbled with fantasies and fears. Perhaps that's why he lives by a motto that could be summed up with the words, Trust No One.
