Food Not Bombs, Hacking Society.
Written at around midnight
Today:
- I helped with food preparation for Food Not Bombs. Cutting
peppers, husking corn, and... eating ice cream, cake, and drinking
ultra-rich soy nog? Yep, when surrounded by people eating yummies, which
they continuously offer to share, one cannot resist for long. Indulgence is
inevitable.
- Hung out at the Ranch, and felt my spirit being rejuvenated
again, inside and out. (And, in the library, read the intro to what looked
like a
fascinating book. Were it not for the already overwhelming abundance
of reading material in my queue, and the fact that I'll be going on the
road next week, I might have checked it out. Maybe next time.)
- Tobias got the honor of becoming the Food Not Bombs transport
vehicle for the day. Never before have so many kettles full of hot,
nutritious food occupied the back seat.
- Naturally, I also ate at the bandshell with the small crowd
that had gathered. Fun times.
- Made a return trip to the Ranch, to transport not only the
pots and pans, but also the other volunteer who helped serve food.
(And her kwute wittle puppy too!)
- Upon carrying items back to the kitchen, was offered soup,
couldn't resist taking a sample, which in turn lead to eating a
small bowl while socializing with the group. Eventually, I did
manage to tear myself away from the place.
- At Caffe Sole, ordered coffee (yeah, I'm back to moderate
caffeine consumption on occassion), read, and learned more on the
nature and effects of propaganda. Were I not already in such good
spirits, I probably would have found the material quite depressing.
As it was, my brain just absorbed it as more worthwhile knowledge.
- Hacking Society. The usual enjoyable discussions took place, ranging
from technical topics to the not-so-technical. Chris showed me and others
a live demo of some fascinating software for alternative methods of inputting text. Very cool;
I personally tried it for a couple minutes, and eventually
managed to complete one word. I think it would take a lot of
getting used to in order to become efficient.
- Now, I'm contemplating if, and how, I want to resume posting my writings to
livejournal. I think for now, I'l dupe this entry there manually, and likely play it
by ear for the future. This is a small subsection of a larger self-debate I've been
having about how much of my personal life (and writing) I want to make
public on the web, and in what venues. There are no easy answers
anymore. 1999 is in the distant past. Firm conclusions still pending,
perhaps never to be reached.
Now, I think I'll indulge in just a little more music before I retire for the night...
