Only at a time when a nation is in a long and steady buildup to yet another even more gruesome war would so many power players from Hollywood and elsewhere collaborate to create such an orgiastic piece of propaganda, with a subtlety deeper than the softest chord.
I've seen it a few times before. Had this not been the case, I would have been utterly lost after the first few scenes, especially while watching it in such a sleep-deprived, Clockwork Orange-esque state. As it was, I fell from exhaustion, and slept peacefully through the first 20 minutes or so. But in the bedroom scene, when all the sounds became so soft as to touch the deepest cave dweller with compassion and genuine sexual love, my mind jolted back into a waking state, and became fixated.
As I watched and worked feverishly to solve the mystery -- (Yes it DOES have a happy ending -- the death was faked, but everyone around, including the victim, had to believe it was real) -- I realized the truth about why asr2004 fell apart. Context switch time.
Keep in mind that this is only a theory, but I believe it is quite solid right now.
For me, it all revolves around a girl whose name began with the letter L. Though she told no lies, she misled with every signal and gesture. It is what she was created to do, and what she does best.
She and her sexually ambiguous friend did not come to asr by themselves. They were brought along by somebody else, probably with strong encouragement from powers relatively high in the corporate or government pyramid.
Though she was unbelievably beautiful and incredibly well manicured (especially considering that it was a social retreat in the wilderness), I believed her when she told -- not me, but somebody else whom she trusted more than me (but she didn't mind me budding in on the conversation) -- that she "still lives with her parents somewhere in the boring southern suburbs of Denver, and wants to save some money to go on the road."
I believe she does live with her parents, and that they are close, as she stated. But she is irresistably drawn to the wild, as am I. This is why I (and others) instantly latched onto her, but only in a very subtle manner.
She did not say how she is earning money to go on the road, or what she does to get it. I don't blame her for concealing and being evasive. I wouldn't want to say much either. After again exposing my suggestible mind to the temple of the Moulin Rouge, I think I'm getting a better and better picture of how this all works.
What is it about me and prostitutes, anyway?
I could go on and on with this, but I need to get back to the tv so I can view the "original" Kama Sutra dvd while it's still fresh. Yes, I just happened to pick up a tagged copy at Circut City on Sunday (while the tuning was in full force) for the bargain bin price of $6.99. Hooray for me! You wouldn't believe what I had to do to pull that one off.
Yes, I am going mad. I need to go back to my room. There is much more I could say, but it is being put on hold. Must watch the next movie before the new day begins. Wait, the sky is already getting light! Hurry, hurry, hurrry! So you can relax.
If this does not stop, I predict that before long, we'll start seeing copies of Boxing Helena (dvd AND vhs) lining the aisles of grocery stores. If the MPAA doesn't start releasing it everywhere soon, someone like ME will.
Gotta go. Over and out. (Too much info lost due to lack of finger bandwidth.)
