mood: Disappointed

If I had the Charlie's Angels dvd here, I rip it and post the audio clip. "Damn you Salazar! Damn you!"

With nearly 10% of precincts reporting, and the margins quite huge, it looks like a statistically reasonable guess to assume that Salazar has it.

So, what does this mean? It means that either the voting machines were rigged (plausible, given the complete lack of a voter verified paper trail), or the Democrats of this state have some sort of strange death wish. Even if Salazar does win in November, the victory will be hollow, as it will mean Colorado gets yet another in a long line of mediocre hacks to represent us in the senate.

Why, Colorado? Why? You had a perfectly good chance to elect a truly inspiring, down to earth, sensible person, and you squandered it. It's just... sad.

It looks like we, as a country, are going to end up with essentially two choices for November. Either we give the hysterical madman and his party of thugs another term at the healm, in which case we can watch in horror as he continues to laugh gleefully at the sinking ship he is piloting, or we can go back the corrupt, special interest funded equivocaters who, as the convention a few weeks ago demonstrated, display no shortage of posturing and BS, but very little real substance.

Another sad night for politics. Why, why, why? It's times like this that I tend to become a misanthropist. Are so many people really as stupid as the poll results would seem to indicate? I'm not just talking about this Senate race. How else can we explain the asdendence of John Kerry? Hell, for that matter, how else could we explain George Bush?

As this election cycle has proven, the problem with politics is not that there aren't good candidates out there willing to run. (Even in 2000, look at John McCain.) The problem is that for some bizarre reason, whenever they enter the voting booth, a ton of people seem to find ways of choosing the lousiest of the bunch.

Anyway, enough ranting from me. Time to let those false hopes go, and find new and better ones.
