Word to the wise: If you want a database that actually... like... works, without hours of pain and hassle slugging through the pettiest of minutia, then don't use Oracle. Trust me.
In other "don't do what I do" news, MTV2 is a bad thing for insomniacs. A very bad thing.
Along with most of the rest of the planet, they've been eulogizing the 10th anniversary of the death of Kurt Cobain for the past couple days. On the plus side, that means quite a lot of Nirvana gets played, which tends to beat the pants off of the majority of the slush that passes for music on MTV these days.
That said, I have to count myself among the "Why so much fuss?" crowd. Nirvana: Not a bad band. They made some good songs. I liked Teen Spirit, Lithium, Come As You Are, All Apologies, Dumb, Rape Me, You Know You're Right, and a few of the other songs I can't remember off hand. But in my mind, they weren't a great band either. Musically competent, but not exceptional. Same for the lyrics. Ho hum.
I guess now I make the admission that I have never owned a single Nirvana album. With so many people in my age group talking about how it utterly shook them up the moment they heard he was dead, like it was a huge life-changing thing, I find myself wondering where the hell I was during all this. Did I miss something?
I mean of course I heard about it. It didn't have so much significance that I recall exactly "where I was" when I found out. I must have seen it on the news or something. But I could name dozens of other bands and artists -- a few of them dead now, but most still alive -- that have had a much greater impact on me personally over the years.
Oh well. To each their own. The replaying of the final MTV unplugged performance last night was cool. Kurt Cobain was a troubled soul, may he RIP.
...
My dad still hasn't moved. Hence, my still being online here. Now, it's looking like it might happen early next week. We'll see.
Having run out of Angel episodes to watch from Jaeger's download-and-burn collection, I decided to try my luck at downloading a few myself. (Hopelessly addicted again, yes.) I signed up for an account and started downloading Saturday night. It took a few days to get them, but patience prevailed, and now finally I have episodes 12-15 of season 5. Plus, with other people downloading from me, I've earned back all the download credits I spent getting them, plus a few extra. This makes me feel happier than it rationally ought to.
Simple pleasures, I suppose.
It is entirely possible that I will be all caught up before the final batch of new Angel episodes start airing next week. Am I going to find myself glued to the tv every Wednesday night for the next month and a half again? Perhaps so, perhaps so.

I think what's special about Kurt Cobain is that he was the first of his kind. He got started when acts like Vanilla Ice were popular, and he cut through the glossy and artificial feel of music.
Besides, you like Bush, which is widely considered simply a Cobain soundalike. :)
