Jitter jitter. You know your body has been thoroughly resensitized to caffeine when, 4 hours after drinking a cup of cappuccino, all the muscles in your body still feel very... jittery. Like Kramer in the latte episode. I think next time I'll go decaf.

At the recommendation of a couple of people who posted here recently, I decided to attend Hacking Society tonight. It was most enjoyable, despite not having a notebook to bring.

Summary: After getting over a little initial awkwardness, I had some good discussions with various random people. Notable topics included Linux distros, goth clubs, MIDI software, and Chris's thesis project for parsing and summarizing mailing list messages. I even managed to help him a bit with a perl cookie problem he was having. He showed me the project he was working on, and we got into a fairly deep discussion regarding linguistics in general. I also briefly observed Jaeger's fresh Debian install on Kiesa's laptop, and consulted with a relative newbie who is learning Debian.

Laptop of my own or not, I think I just might turn into a regular attendee. A very worthwhile to spend time.

Some of the discussions really made me think it might be a good idea for me to go back to school again. Sure, homework can suck sometimes, but there's a lot of good knowledge acquisition that can go on at such place, as well as fostering an environment conducive to communally developed innovative ideas. My biggest barrier? Lack of financing combined with a strong loathing of debt. Hmmmm, maybe if I try hard enough, I might be able to get over one or more of these obstacles.

Hacking Society. That was a fun time.
