Today in the car, as I was listening to BPI, they played an old staple, it doesn't get (quite) as much airplay these days, but you still hear it every now and then. White Zombie. Thunderkiss 65. Down memory lane we go...

I remember the first time that song came on the air. It was over a decade ago. 1992, most likely. Me and my friends were all like, "What the fuck is this?" Being steeped in the music of the times -- Def Leppard, Poison, Metallica (some things never change), Bon Jovi, Skid Row, G&R, and on the list goes -- the shouting, gutteral, melody-free zone of White Zombie was alien to our ears.

Now, it's just another piece of our music history. When it comes on the radio, the howls of Rob Zombie's droning voice over the churning bass line might trigger a little smile as I nod along to the familiar rhythms. Before long, I'm sure it will be considered old fogey music; that is, if it isn't there already.

Just something random.

I went down and got a copy of my driving record from the DMV today. Tomorrow, the not so fun but hopefully rewarding part. I'll take it in to some of these places with job ads and see if I can convince them to hire me.

This afternoon, I also made yet another giant pot of....

[any guesses?]

Yep. That's right. Bean dip. I tweaked the formula a bit this time, so that even my mom actually liked it. She says it's still pretty spicy, but good. I'd classify this batch as "fairly mild", but that's me. It tasted good. If I get in a spicy mood, I can always add a few drops of the stuff bouncing sent from San Antonio last week. ;)

And to segue back to the topic of music, the question needs be asked: Is it possible to get too much of Evanescence? I freakin love this group. There have been days when I've listened to the Fallen album 2 or 3 times, they're on ClearChannel's frequent playlist (that's one I'm not complaining about), the Daredevil movie that I saw not long ago featured at least a couple Evanescence songs prominently on the soundtrack. Yet still, it doesn't wear out.

I loved Bring Me To Life on first listen. Ditto for most of the songs on the album. Yet listening again, even after dozens of repeats, I still find new depths, both musically and lyrically. It's beautiful stuff.

Track 7, Imaginary, for example:

I linger in the doorway
of alarm clock screaming monsters calling my name.
Let me stay
Where the wind will whisper to me
Where the raindrops as they're falling tell a story

In my field of paper flowers
And candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours
And watch my purple sky fly over me

Don't say I'm out of touch
With this rampant chaos, your reality.
I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge
The nightmare I built my own world to escape.

In my field of paper flowers
and candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours
and watch my purple sky fly over me

Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming
Cannot cease for the fear of silent nights
Oh how I long for the deep sleep dreaming,
The Goddess of imaginary light.

In my field of paper flowers
and candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours
and watch my purple sky fly over me.

Then again, maybe I've just been hypnotized by the sound of Amy Lee's voice. It's been known to happen.
