I rented this on a whim after another content farmer recommended it.
(That link only works if you're logged in over there. But
I suspect that the majority of the known readers do, so I'm
using it.)
This film tells the true story of Veronica Franco
(Catherine McCormack), a woman who lived in a 16th century
Venice. Unable to marry the man she loved (played by
the legendary Rufus Sewell) because he was
of a different social class, and because marriages were
considered more of a political tool than a union of love,
she learned to make a living doing the same thing her mother had
once done. She became a courtesan.
I liked this movie not only because it was highly
entertaining with a heartwarming story, but also because
it also presents, in a cogent package, a compelling look at
some of the principle why's and how's behind our society's most under-appreciated profession. The
dialog was also excellent.
Definitely a worthwhile movie.
