Final Rambling from the Castle Lair

Thursday, October 31, 2002 14:32

It's now 14:30. Much of the cleaning is done, but not all of it. Most of the stuff is moved, but there are still a few bits and pieces left (Argo, obviously, being one of them). If I'm lucky, I'll have done everything that I'm supposed to by 17:00. The next couple hours are gonna be a rush.

Last night in the Castle Lair

Thursday, October 31, 2002 01:48

It's nearly empty now. Not quite as empty as I was aiming to have it by this point, but it's actually looking like having everything out is foreseeable.

Tuesday, October 29, 2002 21:45

I have 48 hours to be out. Edging ever closer to the point of being gone. My world is ending. But it keeps ending. It doesn't stop. Can I hit the Reset button now?

Snowy Day Goodness

Tuesday, October 29, 2002 15:09

The snow just doesn't stop falling outside. It's beautiful to the eyes, but worrysome when confronted with the thought that I need to have the rest of my stuff moved Real Real Soon. I'm attempting to wait at least until it stops falling before moving items. I may not be able to hold much longer though.

Ruminations

Tuesday, October 29, 2002 01:46

The night is empty. The music brings me comfort. My apartment is about 2/3rds empty compared to what it was last week. Today, my dad helped me move the big stuff over to his place.

Words here come slowly, if at all.

Houston, we are switching servers

Sunday, October 27, 2002 21:43

In a few moments, I'll switch all the dns records over to send everybody to Bitscape's Lounge on its new home at buildmeasite. There's just a few more little things I want to do before unleashing it on the whole world though. But by the time people read this, it will have already happened.

Sail away

Friday, October 25, 2002 23:39

This nearly concludes a week during which I got such an amazingly small amount of nothing accomplished, that I have astounded even myself with the lengths of my own lethargy. It's like I just don't care anymore. Almost to the degree that I feel incapable of caring. Trying to force myself to care doesn't doesn't help either.

Poem: Defective Merchandise

Thursday, October 17, 2002 13:29

From the things-you-discovere-while-packing department...

I discovered this scribbled in a random notebook. It's dated 4/8/2002. April 8. A little over six months ago. Kind of random. Here, for everyone's depressing pleasure:

Remember the boom?

Thursday, October 17, 2002 12:59

While going through the drawers, getting rid of old stuff, and rummaging through papers from long ago, I came across documents issued back when I was first hired as a software engineer at an up-and-coming "Internet company". Looking at them now makes me want to cry.

Venting Angst

Tuesday, October 15, 2002 23:52

I should be handling this like an adult, but I'm not. I just want to go into the corner and disappear. I've been sleeping way too much lately. When I inevitably wake up in the late morning or afternoon, I find myself instinctively crawling back into bed in hopes that I can sleep longer, even if I'm not physically tired.

I want the world to end, but paradoxically, I want nothing more than to get back into some kind of routine where things are stable and secure.

Well, here it is. Middle of the month. October 15. I have no job. Two weeks to clear the apartment. A load of furniture that needs to be removed. Still no clear idea on exactly where I'm going to stay after this. We will now operate under the assumption that I'm fucked.

Dead air

Tuesday, October 8, 2002 19:58

Well this is annoying. I try to tune in and watch the new Buffy, and UPN is broadcasting nothing but dead air. So after a few minutes of staring blankly and wondering what could possibly be going on, I wander back over to my PC to read random websites, and maybe write a little rant on my website about this oddness. Well, at least I'm not crazy.

Bitscape: If it's cheesy, it's cheesy. :)
2002-10-14 04:46:45

Bitscape: Computers are not excluded either. Not that I'm trying to pick on Meg Ryan, but just because You've Got Mail involved some semblence of the Internet does not mean I consider it a masterpiece either.
2002-10-14 04:48:05

Yanthor: Insterestingly, I disagree. I think You've Got Mail is a masterpiece. It's not about computers or the obvious AOL brand placement. It's about people and its commentary about their lives.
2002-10-14 12:09:59

Yanthor: For example, a favorite line of mine is when Meg Ryan's character is writing an email, and she says, "I live a small life..." and she goes on to ponder the meaning of life. Also, Tom Hanks character comes face to face with the worst possible permutation of himself, which leaves him quite shaken. These are just a few examples.
2002-10-14 12:13:01

Yanthor: Also, I have found to my surprise that the movie is very deep interpersonally. For example, early on, Tom Hanks babysits the kids. He snidely asks his stepmother-to-be where she and the nanny are going. She responds in a ditzy way, "I'm going to get my eggs harvested." Later it comes out that she runs off with the nanny. The first several times I saw the scene, I really thought she was like that, then it hit me. She could very easily be heading off to spend some "quality" time with the nanny, and just said that because that was what he was expecting to hear. The movie is full of these incredibly complex interpersonal relations.
2002-10-14 12:20:12

drizzt: suggests that those not opposed to scary movies check out the ring. wow, what a masterfully done film. it actually creeped me out. i haven't had a movie scare me for a long time. its only rated pg-13 so i was thinking how scary could it be. my expectations were far exceeded.
2002-10-14 13:59:41

drizzt: it delivers on all accounts as far as film making goes. good acting, writing and direction and editing. i think i'll see it again. be warned though it IS indeed scary at times.

2002-10-25 12:41:31

Yanthor: Chiana died. I'm am still investigating causes. I'm guessing either Power Supply or Motherboard. Since I actually had to come to work today, I'll fix it tonight. Sorry to all this inconveniences.
2002-10-25 13:51:29

Bitscape: That's a bummer.
2002-10-25 14:20:39

Nemo: Yanthor, sorry to hear it; don't worry on any of our account's though.
2002-10-25 15:48:01

Linknoid: Bitscape, you should make it a goal to reach rambling #1000 before you move out of your place, you're so close.
2002-10-27 11:11:00

Jäger thinks he has the web video release of wsf0 about ready to go
2002-10-27 15:10:44

Jäger: [www.kenkinder.com]
2002-10-27 19:32:49

Bitscape: Checking Content Solutions. We should now be running off the Cobalt.
2002-10-27 21:29:41

Bitscape: Alright. Looks like we're good.
2002-10-27 22:51:22

Bitscape: (for the most part)
2002-10-27 22:51:50

Jäger gave up floppies years ago and hasn't looked back: [rinkworks.com]
2002-10-28 15:52:33

Linknoid: The Worst Wedding Eve Ever: why such a title, it didn't sound that bad
2002-10-28 18:51:20

Bitscape: Well, the wedding itself was dubbed The Worst Scifi Wedding Ever, so it just seemed fitting, especially since we watched the trilogy that night.
2002-10-28 19:37:54

Linknoid: ok, I guess that reference was lost on me
2002-10-29 00:14:18

Bitscape: Woah, holy cow! I just looked out the window for the first time today, and it's snowing like a blizzard. That's going to make moving the rest of my stuff interesting.
2002-10-29 09:50:56

drizzt: road trip?
2002-10-29 11:13:49

drizzt: you'd be welcome bitscape. food and shelter for a few days. entertainment too. ha just let us know.
2002-10-29 11:14:24

Bitscape: We shall see. May plans at this point, are rather indefinite. Seems to be the case a lot lately.
2002-10-29 12:22:54

Bitscape: Sure would be fun though. I appreciate the invite.
2002-10-29 12:23:26

Yanthor: Yeah, Bitscape. We could work something out too if you dropped by here for a little while.
2002-10-30 09:17:31

Yanthor: I think you would be impressed at how much more...furnished and nice our apartment is now. :-)
2002-10-30 09:17:59

Bitscape: Thanks guys, but it looks like I'm gonna be working here in town, for the next few months anyway.
2002-10-30 12:35:54

Kiesa: Good luck with the new job!!
2002-10-30 13:05:11

bouncing: Congrats on the job Bitscape. From the recent ramblings, you may be interested in a concept of "Voluntary Simplicity" --[directory.google.com]
2002-10-30 13:33:46

bouncing: It basically being where people live and work in an environmentally sustainable way. It just so happens to be an alternative to consumerism and similar to certain links on your page lately. :)
2002-10-30 13:35:22

Jäger: So does this count as "gainful" employment? :)
2002-10-30 13:57:49

Bitscape: Nice links bouncing. Now I find myself reading Thoreau when I'm supposed to be moving. :) [promo.net]
2002-10-30 15:25:36

Jäger: Being a trustfunder, I wouldn't consider Thoreau to be the ideal one-stop solution for all of your philiosophical needs...
2002-10-30 15:32:53

Bitscape: So what philosophers would a "trustfunder" recommend? :)
2002-10-30 16:17:54

Bitscape considers a trip to the Britney Spears school of deep thought and philosophy.
2002-10-30 16:20:07

bouncing: Linux Halloween Spook: [clamp.us]
2002-10-30 16:29:33

Bitscape: Spooky penguin.
2002-10-30 16:55:47

Jäger: Trustfunders don't need to work anyway since they have all of the money they need without working.
2002-10-30 20:32:51

Jäger can barely restrain himself until Tuesday
2002-10-30 22:25:29

Jäger: B5 on DVD -- what more could one want?
2002-10-30 22:25:40

Jäger: (well, ok, a job so one can buy B5 on DVD. The whole series, of course. Although Gem might not contribute money to fifth season.)
2002-10-30 22:26:03

Linknoid: I know I lost interest after 4th season. Is fifth season really that interesting?
2002-10-30 22:51:19

Linknoid: Most of the parts of the storyline that I was interested in got tied up for the most part in the 4th season, so I didn't even watch 5th
2002-10-30 22:52:17

Kiesa: I saw some of 5th season but it didn't feel like it was as intricate.
2002-10-31 10:15:59

Jäger: Londo becomes emperor, Sherridan becomes president, the Narns crush Centuri Prime underfoot... what more could one want?
2002-10-31 10:24:44

Jäger: And Garibaldi becomes a CEO. Fun for the whole B5 family!
2002-10-31 10:25:58

Jäger: Ok, here's something I didn't know: Jerry Doyle [us.imdb.com] and Andrea Thompson [us.imdb.com] were married.
2002-10-31 10:29:52

Jäger: Would you want Garibaldi as your representative? [www.doyleforcongress.com]
2002-10-31 10:32:14

Signalman: Does Jeager have an e-mail that he prefers over the festing one?
2002-10-31 15:40:45

Signalman: Signalman regrets spelling Jaeger's name incorrectly.
2002-10-31 15:44:56

Jäger: festing is the canonical e-mail address, but we're having server issues at the moment... for now, try jaeger(at)defiant.festing .org
