Damn you, IFC. Damn you.
I have IFC going in the background, and just when I'm thinking about getting to bed, a movie, already running, catches my attention. The camera work fascinates me. The stellar acting of Wesley Snipes, Samual L Jackson, John Turturro, et al. The ironic use of happy old-romantic Sinatra style tunes and gospel music to accentuate the drama.
So, despite it being pan-n-sucked, and having not paid attention to the first 15 minutes, I watch Jungle Fever to conclusion, finding myself both riveted and mildly disturbed. Tragic. A dizzying portrayal of... race, romance, and the hell communities and families wreak upon their own kind. So many twisted angles. This is a brainful to think about.
I think this might have just converted me into a Spike Lee fan, at least for this film. (I have seen bits of his other work in the past, but this one touched me far more personally.) Time to turn the tv off now.
