Once in a week ramble

Yes, I haven't been mosting ramblings very frequently lately. I credit (or blame) this partially to the theory that I seem to have relatively little of substance to say, and partially to the fact that I simply haven't felt like writing as much. It comes and goes. Such is the way of things.
While I was walking earlier this evening (mmmm.... fresh air), I came up with a statement that seems to summarize things:
Despite the relative purposelessness of my hollow existence during this segment of life, my spirit remains in tact.
Profound, eh?
Well, maybe. Or maybe not. It seemed to fit the moment.
"So, letz talk about the weather...."
With the exception of the fog hovering over the city after work today, the weather has been absolutely picturesque spring around here for the past week. I've been making efforts to take advantage of it by getting outside and exercise. (Not very hard when it's this gorgeous out. On Sunday evening, the sunset was absolutely killer.)
I've had a nagging temptation to purchase a bicycle again. I haven't really owned a working bike, since... 10 years ago? Last I knew, particle remains of the bike I once rode were decaying in the garage at the Louisville Compound. I have no idea what became of those.
Every time I look outside and see the sun shining, I think, "Man, wouldn't it be cool to ride a bike again?" I may yet work such an expense into the non-budget, though it may not happen until next month. (Of course, the thought of a broken clavicle does not appeal, but what's life without a little risk?)
[Bitscape pulls a pizza from the freezer, cuts up some yummy green olives and places them on top, and puts it in the oven.]
Well, at least I've been keeping up my movielog entries. Who would've thought the day would come when movielogs would outnumber ramblings for a sustained period of time? :)
Speaking of movies, holy crap! Netflix has picked up the pace! On Monday morning, I dropped Alien and Aliens in the mailbox on the way to work, thinking that if I was very lucky, I might get Lawrence of Arabia discs 1 and 2 before the weekend (but more likely early next week). Yesterday, the emails arrived saying they had received Alien(s), and shipped each of the Lawrence of Arabia discs. Lo and behold, when I opened my mailbox today, I found 2 discs waiting there. Round trip: 3 days. A new record for my account. (The much-bemoand U.S. postal service also deserves some credit for that one.)
But no, that doesn't mean I'll be watching the mega-epic tonight. This weekend. Probably Saturday.
I think I may just throw on a TNG episode momentarily.
On a semi-related topic, I've been pondering whether it would be a good idea to cancel my cable tv subscription. ("What?!? Is Bitscape crazy?!?") Well...
Out of 500 channels of crap, how much of it do I actually watch?
- Buffy. New episodes are on broadcast. Old episodes are being released on DVD (much more slowly than Zan Lynx and I would prefer, but it is happening).
- Farscape. Yeah, I wouldn't see the new episodes right away. (Discounting the possibility of being an evil pirate and downloading them.) But really, is it worth $46/month just for that?
- An occassional movie on IFC. With all the movies I get from netflix / Best Buy, I barely keep up as it is.
- Um... Behind the Music on VH1. Though I watch crap like that occassionally, I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there, and my brain would probably be better off anyway.
Seriously, that little list pretty much sums up my typical tv usage. So again, is it worth $46/month? I haven't taken action yet, but seriously thinking about it...
Now, my pizza is ready to eat, so I'm going to curl up around the Bitscape Custom Channel and watch some classic TNG. Mmmm....
