What has it been? An hour since my last rambling? Anyway, a little time on the couch, some Music(tm), and a bit of time passed, and my head feeling significantly clearer than it was not long ago. There's a bit of stuff on my mind, expanding on earlier thoughts. Normally, I'd post this in the collective, but since Rage has mysteriously vanished from the known universe, the collective is not available. Hence, this rambling.

I'm listening to The Peak. Still don't know exactly what the story is, but an educated guess could be made. I would surmise that Alice bought them out. This is based on the Alice promos that keep cropping up ("Your new home for the 80s.").

Oh yea. Alice ain't too bad a station, but... why? I guess this is the era in which we hail and celebrate less selection and variety for everybody. (Apparently, The Peak is gonna be taken over by the spaniards.... err... I mean, spanish speaking something-or-other. Seems like we heard the same story back when they last switched formats away from the heavy stuff.)

Since this is the last weekend, the DJ's are playing whatever the hell they want. Not surprisingly, The Peak has never sounded so fresh. Music I've never heard them play before. A totally eclectic batch of songs left and right (though many are from the 80's, it's far more diverse than their usual better-than-clearchannel-but-still-sometimes-repetitive playlists.)

So here's this profound thought I had. (No, it's not really profound at all, but apparently a foriegn concept to the doofuses in charge of radio stations around here.) Why not make a station where the normal, everyday routine consists of human DJ's exercising their talent and experience to select music for the audience to hear? Is this not a radical and bizarre idea?

Of course, too kooky. It might make people actually want to listen to the radio. Sometimes, they might even discover music they didn't know about before, and become interested in it. The record industry woundn't tolerate that, would they? No, it's much more lucrative to keep paying through the nose for ClearChannel to play crap, turning more people off to the whole concept every day.

So this sort of turned into a rant. Oh well.

Now they're broadcasting live from an 80s dance party in denver (the last one ever). If I weren't already partially wasted, I might be tempted to go check it out. Hell, I am tempted. Hmmm... Is there any late night public transport running from here to downtown and back? Guess not. I suppose a taxi is an option, but... It's a wait, costly, and... I guess I'm not quite that adventurous at the moment.

Yeah. It'll be over 1.75 hours from now anyway. I'll just listen from here, and let my blood alcohol content keep simmering at... whatever it happens to be right now.

Do I have anything else profound to say right now? No, I don't suppose I do.

Oh, there's a link though. Last night, I read the most insightful and eloquent speech about the nature of copyright I've seen in a long time. Recommended for all. Even though it was made over a century and a half ago, it provides a very illuminating look at the current debate that's been raging.

So, once again, that's all folks.
