Great movie. Nosebleed seat position. The guy at the
ticket counter warned me that there were only a few
left, so I'd probably get a crappy seat, but I was
going to be damned if I failed on a second attempt to
see this film. Down in the absolute front row, where I
could almost make out the individual pixels
(metaphorically speaking). But hey, that's what I get
for not being early.
What an epic! What a fun movie. The beast roamed the
land. The plot actually gets quite a bit more involved
than one might think after just the first... what...
hour? Tis indeed the season for lengthy fantasy films
set in times long past. And to think that in less than
a month, Queen of the Damned is coming out too. Yes, yes
yes.
Oh, and the end credits were kind enough to prove
that it was really not my imagination. The
soundtrack really did vaguely seem like
could have been from a really great Xena episode.
Amidst all those French names, the familiar name of
Joseph Lo Duca popped out like a sore thumb. Hah!
The story itself is like a really great adventure game. All
the elements are there. The vicious demonic evil
which plagues the land. The mysterious manor in the
country village, with all the spooky characters. The
valliant hero, and his cool sidekicks. The beautiful
love interest(s). The hapless villagers, plagued by
the monster. Beyond everything else, it makes a
great mood piece.
Oh yes, and in case it wasn't already obvious, the whole thing
is in French. English subtitles. (Larger than life subtitles,
in my case this time.) What a fun film. I'll have to
watch it again sometime.
