Um, actually no, the title is not referring to a recently released epic adventure movie based on the books of J.R.R. Tolkien. This would be the other J. The Michael Straczynski one. You know, the television genius who created the show everyone has been clamoring for in hopes of a DVD release. Babylon 5. This new tv movie installment: Legend of the Rangers.
Although no new tv series has been officially announced, everything about it pretty much screams "pilot episode". The introductory story structure. The uncertain acting, as if all the actors are still fitting into the shoes of the characters they play. The half-dozen or so unfamiliar faces of crew members who could eventually become household names we all look back on 10 years from now with a smile. "So that's how their great adventures started. And oh how funny they all were back then, compared to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seasons." You know how it goes.
The tactical weapons interface: Very cool. If you saw it, you know what I mean. If not, then watch. Scifi will run it again. In fact, they are doing so at this very moment.
Speaking of DVD releases, my brain has been soaking in the Buffy episodes at what is likely an unhealthy rate. What's funny is that I saw most of the season 1 episodes for the first time but little more than 2 weeks ago during their fx run, and now I'm watching them all again in the superior format. Hmmm... maybe another episode or 2 after this rambling.

Methinks I have been slipping a bit on the exercising
front. Monday evening, I did go out and run, despite
extreme protest from every muscle in my body (still not
sure why, because I wasn't even pushing that hard; it
was like any moving at all was a hurdle). Wednesday,
I... didn't. Thursday, I took a nice walk, which was
good. Friday was cold outside, and other people were
using the gym, so... blah. Today I stayed inside all
day, and I don't regret it either. Next week? We'll see.

I did manege to at least partially clean my apartment today, though the bedroom is still largely a mess. Perhaps I'll tackle it tomorrow. It has come to my attention that a vacuum might be a good idea. I've been living here... what? Nearly 3 months. The carpet is getting a little bit chunky now. It may soon cross the threshold at which it annoys me enough to go out and do something about it. Not quite there yet though...
Getting low on food again. A couple frozen pizzas left (one of which I ate this evening), and some soup, chips. I have cereal, but no more milk. I have potatoes. Apples. No bagels since several days ago. The last of the spaghetti was cooked last night. Perhaps I shall perform the grocery shopping ritual again tomorrow. Perhaps.
/me wishes they still had Xena episodes on Saturday nights. 6 seasons was too few. Especially since the show was getting strong again during the last season. /me starts reminiscing about how I made a weekly routine of watching the new episodes, and often followed them with ramblings about how great/awful the latest had been.
I can't bring myself to watch the crappified screen squished versions of the reruns. It's like desecrating a piece of sacred art. Better to not watch at all than bear the trauma of it. That's my story. I'm sticking to it.
Hmmmm.... So far in this rambling, I've managed to mention 3 of The Greats in television lore. Why not go for a record? Show the whole world what a complete nerd with too much free time I am? (Cause after all, there might be a few new stray visitors poking their heads in. Aren't I flattered? I suppose so.)
TNG release coming out in a couple months. I ponder whether it would really be a good idea to plunk down ~$100 every other month for a year so that I can "have" the complete set. So far, my pattern with most of these tv dvd releases has been to buy, watch once (if that?), and then put them away on the shelf with the thought that I might watch again at some point in the future when I get bored.
Of course, the reality is that there's new stuff coming out all the time. In theaters... on tv.. on dvd... on cable... pirated downloads (no, I would never do anything illegal)... everywhere! The result is that last week's treasured flavor silently slides into the background, often without even having had a chance to take the limelight, but for a split second. Then it's on to the Next Big Thing. With this constant onslaught, seldom is anything ever quite fully experienced. Great blessing, or curse? I'm still not sure.
And now I sit, blankly. Fragmented thoughts shooting in a thousand different directions. I can't decide which ideas to type, and which to leave for another day. What has been heard already? What needs to be said again? What is the difference between mindless fluff and true insight? Do I even have the capacity for the latter anymore? This is not a good place to end. So I must add something more. But what?
Um....
...
Ok, maybe there really isn't anything else to add at the moment. lol.
Alright, goodnight.
