Joss Whedon is a television genius!

"The idea that the show could be so schizophrenic -- that it could be bouncing from horror to comedy to action to drama all the time is something that some people had trouble getting used to."
/me listens to the commentary track on the pilot. Could there ever be such a thing as too much Buffy? One wonders...
I knew it all along... Joss is a sadist!
"Another rule of the show that we learned very early on was, 'put Willow in peril.' Alyson, her vulnerability, works very well, and every time something looked like it was going to happen to her, it just kind of tears the audience up."
And to think the narrowminded network execs initially didn't want to have Willow in the show because she wasn't a supermodel or something... tsk tsk tsk.
Um, yes. In case it wasn't already patently obvious, a few coworkers and I made a little side trip to Best Buy during lunch today, where I picked up the shiny new 3 disc Season 1 set. (It's sort of like a half season, because there were only 12 episodes the first year. But at $30, it's a steal.) Someone else bought a copy of Tron, which I must confess I've never actually seen. Perhaps I'll have to correct that one of these days.
...
Ok, this isn't working. [Bitscape presses the stop button.] Simultaniously typing ramblings and listening to commentary tracks just doesn't work. I get absorbed in one, and the other gets lost by the wayside.
Heh. They were also running double buffy on tv tonight. UPN was broadcasting 2 episodes (the 2 part season 5 finale) directly across from the normal FX stuff, which is currently in season 2. What I would like to know is this: Since they were in direct competition (at least in this timezone), which channel got higher ratings? Personally, I tuned to FX, since I haven't seen the season 2 eps, but I could easily see how some people might want to watch the season 5 finale again too. Then again, maybe some fans were so busy with the dvd set as to forego tv broadcasts altogether. It boggles the mind.
So... what else might I have to say?
In the finance department... Yes, Bitscape has been trying to trim back on the excess spending lately. (tv series dvd box sets aside.) Largely for this reason, I'm doing less of the "eating out every single day for lunch at work" routine. For the past week+ (since the beginning of January, actually), I've been either bringing lunch in to work, or just driving home for a few minutes to grab a bite.
That's not to say I make it a point never to go out to eat (I did today, in fact), but it no longer makes sense for me to do it as a matter of rote, day in and day out, especially on days when I don't even particularly care that much about what I'm eating. At this point, I consider it a higher priority to pay the rent and bills, aggressively cut debts, have enough to buy fun stuff like dvds and games, and still save a little on the side. That's my plan, at least.
Blah. Time passes too quickly when one is sitting and doing nothing at home.
On that note, I think I shall terminate this rambling, and see if I can manage to get to sleep at a reasonable hour. It is with great resistance that I tear myself away from the tv and dvd player for the evening so that I can fulfill my new year's resolution, spend a few minutes reading a book, and get to bed at such time that I might have a chance at not being completely wasted tomorrow.
