Jäger: Mass IRC! 0200 GMT 02 October 2001
2001-10-01 08:48:11-06
Jäger: lol: [www.keepersoflists.org]
2001-10-01 14:31:51-06
Jäger: google changed itself!
2001-10-01 22:52:26-06
Jäger: Doug Logan on NPR this morning: [www.npr.org]
2001-10-02 12:25:37-06
Drizzt: realizes he is hopelessly addicted to scifi without the special geeky talents possessed by some of his friends. he is simply an addict trying to decide which of the miriad of scifi shows to watch this season. can he watch them all? no. he is married.
2001-10-03 08:55:56-06
Drizzt: i would like to get in on the next mass irc. someone let me know when and how and i'll try to be there.
2001-10-03 10:09:48-06
Linknoid: I'm probably less qualified in the area of IRC than other people, but I probably have more time available
2001-10-03 11:42:02-06
Linknoid: If you want me to send you instructions, e-mail me linknoid at festing.org (where at = @ symbol)
2001-10-03 11:43:52-06
Jäger: Ever notice, in science fiction, how files are always moved, never copied?
2001-10-04 21:58:20-06
Jäger: The bad guys are on a quest to supress some data, and they capture something and see that the file isn't there.
2001-10-04 21:59:07-06
Anonymous Troll: Wow: [www.phrusa.org]
2001-10-04 23:35:07-06
Linknoid: Jaeger, just curious, which air-to-air missile were they advertising?
2001-10-05 10:44:10-06
Drizzt: is having difficulty dealing with the mundane existence he seems to be wallowing in today and yesterday and the day befroe that...
2001-10-05 12:20:53-06
Drizzt: befroe--a new word that means before
2001-10-05 12:21:29-06
Drizzt: i like farscape. its swell.
2001-10-05 12:23:47-06
Drizzt: what's it like to posess computer knowledge above and beyond the average human? is there a certain sense of gratification? or is it simply a nice world to live in, comfortable in your knowledge of code and such things that make computers go.
2001-10-05 12:25:33-06
Drizzt: i believe i am going to vent for awhile
2001-10-05 12:33:58-06
Drizzt: things just seem too much lately. having trouble coping with relationships. if only they were as simple as the borg. of course that would be even more mundane than it is now, but at least i wouldn't know any better. although it seems i know very little
2001-10-05 12:47:09-06
Drizzt: i really can't take this anymore.
2001-10-05 13:30:49-06
Drizzt: leaves after his final happy note..................
2001-10-05 13:31:14-06
Bitscape would say that knowing how to code is a useful and often enjoyable skill
2001-10-05 18:52:19-06
Bitscape: Similar things could probably be said about any hobby or interest though.
2001-10-05 18:53:52-06
Bitscape: I suppose a particular side effect of having computer knowledge is that it is easy to get annoyed about the clueless Windows users of the world. heh.
2001-10-05 18:55:48-06
bse: woah.. hehe.. hey =D
2001-10-05 18:59:27-06
bse: many a clueless windows user majoring in Computer Graphics/Interactive Media at my college.. hehe
2001-10-05 19:01:07-06
Linknoid: Having grown up with computers, my attitude has changed a lot since I entered Union
2001-10-05 22:37:06-06
Linknoid: They were always something fun, a toy to make do cool things, jump through the hoops you want it to, but as they became more powerful, and software became more "user friendly" and hid the underneath stuff, they became more of a form of entertainment
2001-10-05 22:39:13-06
Linknoid: More like a TV than a ham radio. It took away a lot of the fun and challenge associated with them
2001-10-05 22:51:25-06
Linknoid: Understanding how they work is more of a "do it because it's fun" than a "do it to get along in the world". Used to be only a few people were into computers, and if you found someone who was into them, you had a common bond
2001-10-05 22:55:03-06
Linknoid: Now, everyone uses them, so knowing about computers doesn't seem as special as it did years ago
2001-10-05 22:56:25-06
gplewes: Hey Ken how is the job searching going I am still busting my ass as a carpenters bitch
2001-10-06 10:39:51-06
Jäger: Mass IRC! 0200 GMT 09 October 2001
2001-10-06 16:09:36-06
Bitscape: I like mass irc. Yes, I do.
2001-10-07 01:45:54-06
Drizzt: feeling better today. i'm sure everyone is much relieved.
2001-10-08 07:15:11-06
Drizzt: bitscape, thanks for making the chat box available.
2001-10-08 07:50:31-06
Drizzt: i do realize that having vast computer knowledge does not make one have a better life. it was simply part of my venting process.
2001-10-08 07:51:21-06
Drizzt: those of you i am friends with know i have a vastly different past in which influences my observation and participation of life. Bitscape probably knows more than the rest
2001-10-08 07:54:11-06
Drizzt: anyway, sometimes i see being a geek (i use the term with respect) as being a much simpler way to go through life because it seems you are always surrounded with exactly what you like and want (with the exception of dumbass windows users).
2001-10-08 07:56:15-06
Drizzt: i'm sure i am being extremely short-sighted about this. it was just how i felt at the time.
2001-10-08 08:20:00-06
Drizzt: btw, anyone see the season premiere of andromeda? they changed the intro music. it sucks now, not nearly as good as the first season's music. can't understand why the changed a good thing.
2001-10-08 08:42:25-06
Drizzt: i have noticed from bitscape's ramblings that he isn't overly excited about the series. seems like the show is getting mixed reviews from many trek fans. i'll have to say i like the show and that it has great potential.
2001-10-08 08:45:32-06
Drizzt: Roddenberry's unrealistic vision of mankind's moral perfection isn't prevailent in the series. big plus in my book. i believe that is my biggest hang up about the newer trek series. anyway, if nothing else we get to see trek history unfold.
2001-10-08 08:52:03-06
Drizzt: ...borg and dildos? bitscape, i didn't know you had it in you. the plot thinckens....
2001-10-08 08:53:52-06
Drizzt: spelling issues again...
2001-10-08 09:39:00-06
Linknoid: A little humor I ran into yesterday: I went to the Big Fresno Fair yesterday. I spent most of my time looking at the exhibits. One building was labeled gems and minerals.
2001-10-08 13:53:15-06
Linknoid: I looked through the various exhibits, and there were many beautiful cut and polished rocks of many sorts. Many of them were labeled.
2001-10-08 13:54:42-06
Linknoid: One display had only one label. In the corner were a pile of crystals, and a label that read: Dylithium Crystals
2001-10-08 13:55:49-06
Linknoid: I'm pretty sure they were quartz (and for those of you too steeped in the Star Trek universe to know better, there's no such thing is dylithium, or whatever the proper spelling might be).
2001-10-08 13:57:01-06
bse would like to point out that he thinks Enterprise's intro music really does suck, but the show itself is rather good... just need more transporter accidents and such! yeh!
2001-10-08 16:40:00-06
Linknoid: My cat: [www.unitedmedia.com]
2001-10-09 10:35:40-06
bse signs in from college.. funky computer labs
2001-10-09 13:01:30-06
Bitscape: Hmmm... Although I think good news reporting is worth paying for...
2001-10-10 07:21:23-06
Bitscape: The problem I have with Salon premium is that when you see a good article, you want to link to it so other people can read it.
2001-10-10 07:22:12-06
Bitscape: If it's a "premium" article, that no longer becomes an option. :(
2001-10-10 07:22:38-06
Jäger keeps getting /. moderator access
2001-10-11 02:55:07-06
scott: [www.scottgalvin.com] - i sold out long ago, but the ever expanding ad is where my site is headed. one day i hope to make it one big link - for like 3 cents, of course ;-)
2001-10-11 12:58:50-06
scott: Verbatim copying and distribution of this entire article is permitted in any medium, provided this notice is preserved.
2001-10-11 13:04:59-06
bouncing: Did Scott start a new site and not tell any of us? [www.soyouwanna.com]
2001-10-11 16:01:58-06
Jäger: mmm... farscape...
2001-10-11 22:57:32-06
Linknoid: Anyone want to bet the next episode of Enterprise is going to be named something like "New Life" or "New Life, New Civilizations"?
2001-10-12 15:13:01-06
Jäger: Kiesa now gets sci-fi! (A worthy charity.)
2001-10-12 15:21:57-06
Captain Logan: Nope, it's called "Unexpected"
2001-10-12 15:37:11-06
Bitscape: 0.9.5 is out. Woohoo!
2001-10-13 02:39:42-06
Bitscape: This Ctrl-T stuff is quite wacky. Give it a try, You might like it. :)
2001-10-13 10:42:15-06
Bitscape: Now what I want is an option for middle click to open up a tab instead of a new window.

bouncing: A very interesting peice on population density, traffic congestion, and whatnot: [www.demographia.com] (not very politicly correct)
2001-10-14 20:36:47-06
Linknoid: Mass IRC tonight?
2001-10-15 15:16:36-06
Shadowkiller: Who's the biggest nut in the world? Take the quiz and find out. [funnystrange.com]
2001-10-16 10:07:44-06
Shadowkiller: The Best Buy stampede is certainly in full effect today.
2001-10-16 14:20:14-06
Timereaper : Why is it programs only do what you tell them to do but never what you thought you told them to do? :)
2001-10-16 14:26:28-06
Timereaper: Now you have to ask yourself. Am I an inDUHvidual or am I a member of Dogberts New Ruling Class? Join now or a power curse shall be upon you. [www.dilbert.com]
2001-10-16 14:32:58-06
bouncing: Bitscape: after reading today's /. are you sure you want to use qwest.net?
2001-10-17 11:04:54-06
Bitscape: Me? I never said I want to use qwest. AT&T, perhaps, but not Qwest.
2001-10-17 17:32:56-06
Bitscape: If I got DSL, I'd order it from one of the better, not so huge and stupid ISPs.
2001-10-17 17:34:09-06
scott: speaking of huge and stupid, i just made the web's largest banner ad! [x13.com]
2001-10-18 04:35:18-06
Timereaper: Yes thats one huge banner. The weather forcast is quite amusing
2001-10-18 09:25:51-06
Bitscape: Beware the pan and scan scam! [dvd.ign.com]
2001-10-19 05:45:28-06
bouncing refuses to purchase "copy-control" media regardless.

Shadowkiller: Virginia Hey, Virginia Hey, Virginia Hey!!!
2001-10-19 13:16:22-06
Jäger: Should I ask, or...?
2001-10-19 15:28:43-06
bse: Moo!
2001-10-19 15:44:51-06
Shadowkiller: lol
2001-10-19 16:21:46-06
Shadowkiller: Methinks the level of intellectual discourse on Content Solutions might be degenerating a tad bit on this silly Friday afternoon.
2001-10-19 16:23:30-06
Bitscape: I wouldn't exactly use the words "intellectual discourse" to describe Content Solutions at any time of the day or night.
2001-10-19 18:11:07-06
Jäger: inta-who?
2001-10-19 18:29:06-06
Jäger: Ask Kiesa about dating. She knows everything.
2001-10-20 16:14:59-06
Linknoid: Oh great and all knowing Kiesa, as one who knows nothing about dating, I ask that you enlighten me (if you actually happen to read this)
2001-10-20 20:25:25-06
Jäger: The end of an era at the Louisville Compound
2001-10-21 02:06:35-06
Kiesa: I am more of a scientist in the dating realm which means my theories may or may not work in real life ;) (so far I have not been given approval for human testing)
2001-10-21 10:28:59-06
Bitscape: I hope this doesn't lead to some experiment resembling Tricia's "study" in Mallrats.
2001-10-21 11:21:00-06
Kiesa: Um, no. I think Jaeger might throw an exception.
2001-10-21 11:35:48-06
Bitscape: lol. I would think so.
2001-10-21 11:38:52-06
Bitscape: Mmmmmm... 2 year old Penguin Mints!
2001-10-21 13:10:15-06
Jäger: Mass IRC! 1900 PDT 22 August 2001
2001-10-21 15:08:38-06
Bitscape will be there, although where he will be joining from is anybody's guess.
2001-10-21 18:58:57-06
bouncing: Check out the story about Dateline NBC: [www.theonion.com]
2001-10-22 10:25:24-06
scott: i saw k-pax for free ([www.k-pax.com] and it's ok. spacey is always awesome, but the "message" isn't exactly wowing.
2001-10-22 23:19:00-06
Humblik: I seem to have missed this evenings IRC. I did at least catch 'The Castle', an excellent movie. The trailers I saw did not do it justice.
2001-10-22 23:30:04-06
Jäger: Bitscape: user friendly is all about you. [ars.userfriendly.org]
2001-10-23 01:05:29-06
Bitscape: lol. Perfect timing!
2001-10-23 07:43:03-06
Bitscape: Gotta go. See you on other side, Content Solutions!
2001-10-23 07:43:54-06

bouncing: Check out this live picture of the Afgan war: [www.850koa.com]
2001-10-23 09:00:53-06
scott: google has tabs and now slashdot has a CNN/AOL-like menu bar... what are geeks going to do?
2001-10-23 10:32:24-06
scott: hahaha [slashdot.org] slash is gonna charge like Salon and have ads like news.com hahaha i love the capitalism of the net
2001-10-23 10:38:48-06
Shadowkiller: Is this truly the land of the free? [www.newsforge.com]
2001-10-23 11:14:20-06
scott: Shadow 'killer' maybe we should move to Cuba. This isn't the land of the free - any taco bell will tell you that :) this site, BTW, does not have a privacy policy. [www.w3.org]
2001-10-23 13:58:08-06
Shadowkiller: Funny you should say that. I just ate Taco Bell less than 2 hours ago. :)
2001-10-23 14:03:24-06
Shadowkiller: Although I don't quite see what taco bell has to do with so-called anti-terrorism legislation.
2001-10-23 14:04:36-06
Shadowkiller: Mulholland Drive fans (if there are any here besides Bitscape), this is the article for you: [www.salon.com]
2001-10-23 14:06:07-06
bouncing: Slashdot with annoying ads, google with tabs, all of these things are what we least expected. Not to mention Ted's .. American .. girlfriend. I'm still not sure I beleive that one.
2001-10-23 14:10:00-06
Jäger thinks bouncing is just jealous.
2001-10-23 20:51:39-06
Linknoid: I don't know what all this fuss is about changes to slashdot, I haven't seen anything different...of course I have it set up to look good in lynx...
2001-10-23 21:21:48-06
Linknoid: although I did notice that bouncing got a post modded up to 4 interesting: [slashdot.org]
2001-10-23 21:31:23-06
scott: is ted's girlfriend american? perhaps an enemy agent infiltrating... well um, the logan household? she could just go through an open window
2001-10-23 23:35:01-06
Drizzt: Shadowkiller: i'm a David lynch fan so i plan to see Mulholland Dr. soon. checked out the link above but shortly fled because i haven't seen the movie yet. has anyone seen any of his other work. blue velvet? twin peaks? fire walk with me, ect.
2001-10-24 09:40:22-06
Shadowkiller: I saw Lost Highway, but I haven't seen any of his other films. I'd like to though.
2001-10-24 10:47:05-06
Linknoid: Hey Jaeger, did transbot die and lose the transcript after this weeks mass IRC? The fact that it disconnected unexpectedly and that the transcript has not yet appeared would suggest that this is the case
2001-10-24 12:03:37-06
Jäger: Tell me what you saw. I got an incomplete transcript and haven't yet gotten around to posting it.
2001-10-24 12:35:09-06
Linknoid: Zan_Lynx requested the conversation up to that point, Transbot didn't respond, and then Transbot disconnected or something like that. I didn't keep a record of exactly what it said, maybe Bitscape or Zan_lynx would know
2001-10-24 13:22:31-06
Drizzt: i have the entire twin peak series on vhs. that includes the pilot movie and fire walk with me. how was lost highway? i don't think i've seen that one.
2001-10-24 13:25:15-06
bse: wheeeeee.. dsl is even more fun when it's conencted to your very own computer..
2001-10-24 16:07:40-06
bse: the only Lynch films i've seen would be Eraserhead (his very first, film school, film), and blue velvet.. mulholland drive looks good though
2001-10-24 16:08:53-06
bouncing: Bitscape, are you excited? [www.denverpost.com]
2001-10-25 08:40:46-06
Shadowkiller: Somehow, I get the feeling that no matter how many screens they put in the new multiplexes, the selection will still be no better, and we'll still be driving miles to see cool new releases like Memento and Muldolland Drive.
2001-10-25 13:32:33-06
Jäger: lol: [fury.com]
2001-10-26 11:10:34-06
Bitscape: zzzzz... zzzzz... zzzzz...
2001-10-26 23:37:55-06
Bitscape: With all the wacky interpretations of Mulholland Drive being thrown around, one could almost see the movie as being a wierded out sort of cinematic ink blot test.
2001-10-27 09:10:53-06
Jäger: Mass IRC! 0300 GMT 30 October 2001
2001-10-27 11:24:07-06
scott: memento was awesome! -- btw, some photographer got an address wrong and mailed me superbike crash photos.. now on [x13.com] until she freaks.. :)
2001-10-28 00:24:14-06
Jäger crashes
2001-10-28 04:25:24-07
Bitscape: Yeep. I had forgotten just how slow analog modems actually are.
2001-10-28 06:09:12-07
bse: so that would be, erm, let me think.. 8pm CDT? i'll be there! =D
2001-10-28 13:15:42-07
Bitscape: daylight savings time chaged, so 9pm CST.
2001-10-28 20:08:58-07
bse: dont you mean 7? since we've lost an hour.. i hate it when the time changes.. =p
2001-10-28 23:33:31-07
Neelix: Thanks for making it Tuesday night, since we have the Lincoln Sci-fi club gathering on every other Monday night
2001-10-29 13:55:44-07
Neelix: "Lincoln Sci-Fi Club" is the name I have given it. Attendees last week: JoAnn, Travis & Sherry Vaughn, Humblik, Heather (Humblik's sister) and her son, Israel Knight, Heidi, and Myself
2001-10-29 13:58:29-07
Neelix: We get together to watch the last two episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise on a bi-weekly basis (or whenever we have two new episodes)
2001-10-29 13:59:12-07
Neelix: Humblik records them off of his satelite feed of UPN
2001-10-29 13:59:32-07
Jäger: Um, no, it's monday night, or Tuesday morning, on the other side of the pond
2001-10-29 15:01:29-07
Jäger: hmm... so wil wheaton reads his referer logs. maybe he'll wander over here? (hi!)[www.wilwheaton.net]
2001-10-29 21:14:26-07
Bitscape: On an ordinary day, perhaps. But I bet he's been slashdotted to hell and back over the past few hours, and it will likely get lost in the noise.
2001-10-30 00:15:50-07
Jäger: in mozilla 0.9.5: view->show/hide->site navigation bar->show only as needed

Bitscape checks in via digatal cable. Sweeheeheet!
2001-10-30 09:09:35-07
Bitscape: Now I need to get my firewall rules updated so I don't get cr4x0r3d.
2001-10-30 09:30:37-07
Bitscape: Woohoohoo! 500 channels of digital crap, and 5 channels of good stuff. :)
2001-10-30 10:52:32-07
bse: which reminds me, i need to install this OS X version of Mozilla....
2001-10-30 12:11:04-07
Linknoid: a very alpha version of linknoidfesting at [linknoid.festing.org]
2001-10-30 16:19:45-07
Jäger: ooh, spiffy!
2001-10-30 18:39:47-07
Jäger would be tempted to guess that the digital cable "feature" can be disabled -- no one else would put up with it for more than twenty seconds.
2001-10-31 00:32:30-07
Linknoid: something frustrating, what happens if someone puts a word like supercalifragilisticexpia lidociousness in the chat box, it changes the size of the tables
2001-10-31 01:00:59-07
Bitscape: Jaeger, it only happens in certain channels. I don't think it's a problem with the digital cable, but with the upstream feed. If there is a way to disable it, I'd love to know how though.
2001-10-31 07:10:35-07
bse: gosh this graphic design class is boring....
