After spending most of his weekend playing Kohan, sleeping, and watching psychotic DVD movies, Bitscape wasn't feeling very tired Sunday night circa midnight. So what did he do? Popped in the Basic Instinct disc again, and watched the Director / Director of Photography commentary track, in which Verhoeven and De Bont discuss all issues related to the film's plot and its making. At 0230, went down for four hours of odd dreams which featured medieval soldiers conquering cities, treacherous mansions next to the ocean, and ice picks, all mushed together in a bizarre weave.

Grudgingly awakened by Argo, Bitscape went in for a day at the cage^H^H^H^H office, with the dream phantoms still swirling around somewhere in the back of his head throughout. Immediately upon arriving home, went down for some serious sleep.

Awoke at nearly 2100, and promptly started into another game of Kohan (insufferable, aren't I?). After a bitter and drawn out defeat (but I'm getting better at it), Bitscape grabbed a bite to eat, switched to the Mozilla desktop, and read what our dvd-loving friends thought.

2200. Hmmmm. Should be just about bedtime again, and Bitscape's brain was refried enough as is, but...

Time to listen to femenist critic Camille Paglia's commentary track on Basic Instinct! lol.

Her statements (Score: 5, Insightful) about the movie range from drawing comparisons to Greek mythology, vampire folklore, classic femme fatale figures of Hollywood and literature, to the Biblical story of the Garden of Eden. One of her central points is that the movie beautifully illustrates the classic battle between the sexes, which has largely been nullified and lost in recent times due to the chilling wave of political correctness in the culture (whose proponents vigorously protested Basic Instinct while it was being made and theatrically screened).

Her illustrative comments about certain scenes, especially during the exposition and buildup, helped to demonstrate why it is such a mentally disconcerting movie, but I don't think that knowing makes it any less so.

Having watched both fascinating commentary tracks of this sick little movie masterwork of mindfuck, I hereby declare that at some point in the future, I should also see the following:

This list should be consulted on a future visit to The Video Station.

Oh yeah. Something related to something else I watched recently.

There. Now I've made my little list for all those other little freaks who will gain control of my brain in the near future, so they can read and follow it. (Won't you?)

Ahem. As it stands right now, Morning Guy is already going to hate me bitterly. Should I continue in this late night debauchery much longer, he will likely declare an all-out vendetta against me, and that would be a Bad Thing. Therefore, in an attempt to appease him at least to a small degree, I shall now hit the sack.
