BLUG, new toys, etc.

Tonight, BLUG attendance by those I know was at a high for the year. Zan Lynx, myself, bouncing, and Jaeger met up there and listened to Kevin Fenzi speak about how to run a Linux box securely. Mostly common sense type stuff, but good to review nonetheless. There's probably certain measures I ought to be taking more often. Indeed, indeed.
After the meeting, we headed out to the usual coffee pub to discuss this, that, and the other. Content Collective patch. One of these days, I say... One of these days.
Speaking of distractions, I showed Jaeger my new Gameboy Advance, which I suppose I should mention here as well. Yes, yesterday temptation overcame me, and I purchased a gameboy advance along with two games: F-Zero and Super Mario Advance (which includes Mario classic and Super Mario 2).
A fun, slick little unit, especially when someone else at the office also happens to own one, allowing for multiplayer action. (Seeing the Gameboy that that other person at the office acquired two days prior was actually the primary source of my temptation.)
A nice little color screen, SNES-class graphics capability, a 15-hour batter life on 2 AAs (according to Nintendo's claims; I have yet to verify for myself because my batters have not yet run out), backward compatibility with original Gameboy games, and a sub $100 price tag are the strong points. The one weak point I've found so far: No backlight. Overall, a very fun little piece of gaming hardware.
Oh, and another thing: It's hackable. Aforementioned coworker has acquired the proper hardware to link it up to a PC serial port, and intends to attempt to try to cross-compile programs, shove them down the link, and execute them. I don't know if I will be quite so ambitios myself, but the idea does hold a certain intrigue.
And now, I find myself very sleepy. Despite the lack of frequent ramblings, I have been depriving myself of sleep a little too often lately. Fun little micro-toys don't help matters much in that department. Maybe one game before I go to bed. Then I collapse. Just one game. That's all. Night now.
