Very lucky, or very unlucky One or the other.

I think I'll take the glass half full approach, and say lucky.
[Bitscape munches on a tasty hot steak sub.]
So a few minutes ago, I'm driving down good ole South Boulder road on my way to Subway to get a bite to eat, peacefully minding my own business. Suddenly, an unexpected, very familiar, and NOT very pleasant sight makes itself known in my rearview mirror. Lights. Red. Blue. Flashing.
DOH!
I look down at my console. Above the 40mph mark. Groan.
Pull to the right, and come to a gradual stop. This is NOT cool. Not in the least. It was just... what? Two weeks ago? A repeat offender. (...on 106.7 KBPI, Rocks the Rockies.... a Repeat Offender... errr.. yeah.)
At the same time, I can't get the thought out of my mind that I was NOT doing anything crazy THIS time. Just driving down the road, on a clear, low traffic evening. At a speed that, while above the legal limit, is entirely common (and safe, I might add) for that stretch of road between Louisville and Lafayette. I do NOT deserve this one. (Okay, maybe by the law I do, but I wasn't being wild at all.)
As I sit and wait for the officer to approach, the one thing I'm hoping is that it's someone other than the last one. I look in my side mirror as the officer walks up by Tobias. The hair. A female. Most definitely NOT the guy who ticketed me before. Okay, so...
Open window, hand over license and registration. I was clocked doing 45 in a 35 zone. She asked if I was in a hurry to anything? I honestly answered that no, I was just on my way to get some food, and hadn't been minding the speedometer very closely. The truth.
She took my info back to her car, and as I waited, I just kept thinking: If there is any karmic traffic justice.... last time, I DID deserve what I got, and more. This time, I really wasn't being irresponsible or unsafe. Just unlucky, and perhaps a tad careless. (Not careless for the act of speeding itself; I still say the speed limit in that area is too low to be reasonable. Careless because I wasn't watchful enough to realize there was a cop following behind me for who knows how long and double check my speed.)
Of course, I knew that if we're going to talk about karmic traffic justice, there have been plenty of times before when I have been driving like a maniac and NOT gotten caught. Perhaps this was just making up for those.
The officer returned with my license, registration, and insurance info. "I'm not going to issue you a summons for this one. Watch your speed, drive carefully, and have a good evening."
WHEW! Lucky. Very lucky.
Tobias and I continued on our way to Subway, and made the planned stop at Blockbuster on the way home.
Alrighty then. I think I'll make a more "complete" rambling later. After my viewing. That little tidbit of an update just seemed like it was worth posting immediately.
Lucky, Bitscape. Too lucky.
