And, in the grand tradition of idiocy the world over, tonight Bitscape watched more broadcast television than he's probably seen in the past three months combined. (Is that really true? I'm pretty sure it is, but my memory could have holes. Of course, DVD reproductions of shows that were once broadcast don't count.)

The season premier of Buffy the Vampire Slayer got off to a rousing start. Buffy fights Dracula. Okaaay. Entertaining. After you haven't been watching for a while, it's like you notice everything again. Like clockwork (no orange). Teaser. BOOM. Credits. BOOM. Commercial. BOOM. Act 1. BOOM. Commercial. BOOM. Act 2. BOOM....... And already I am sick of hearing about that latest ranch taco bell taco thing.

Angel.... Maybe it was just me, but it seemed to fall a little flat tonight. Especially for a season premiere. That bit at the end with Faith was kinda cool though.

So, the question comes: Having spent a good deal of time cold turkey away from the boob tube, is it now really worth it to spend two hours each week staring at those fictional characters, whose fates will ultimately make jack squat of difference when it comes to my life, or is it more worth my time to do... other things? Time will tell, I guess. :)

Trying to think of good topics to write about in an effort to feed the content vultures. (Is that term getting overused now?) Not succeeding. Not much, anyway. I suppose I could just pull some random lyrics out of my ass and call that "content". (which it would be, though not original).

Oh, wait a sec! I know what I could post as content. I was actually thinking about doing this the other night, but I was too beat from already having transcribed all my ramblings from the trip.

Astute readers may remember me briefly mentioning that there were other, older writings in the notebook which I used to hold my ramblings while on the trip. One of those I think would be appropriate to put here. Not really in normal ramblings style, it's more of a vague, narrative, stream of consciousness type of writing. This piece doesn't have a date on it, but I know it was written sometime during the spring of '99.

This world's so full of people
What they think
What they say
Am I really one of them?

...and as the boy climbed the mountain
asking "Where? Where?"
The world below was engulfed
in a deadly gas; a sea of destruction;
a sea of cleansing.

All that was has been wiped away
The meaning which plagued them is no more
All has evaporated.
The purging complete.

"Now where is the life which was brought
   here?" scoffed the adversary.
"What has become of all your tireless
   dreaming, your endless refining,
   your unrelenting reshaping?
"Every bit of work is wasted.
   Each step taken was
   irrelevant. Oblivion apporaches,
   No matter the action."

Nature's voice was silent.
The dust blew up in a frenzy
Clots of dust fell from the cliffs
and crumbled into the grains from which
   they came.
Rocks withered into mush
as oceans became still, serene.

All that remained was matter.

Yeah, there's your "content".

It has just come to my attention that the new version of this site has no implementation of the links section. (Well, not really; I knew it all along, but ya know.) This really wasn't a problem until Bitscape actually found a link he wanted to post. [eyes rolling again.]

Well, add that to my todo list. Heh. Peace unto all, and to all a good night.
