A very eventful weekend begineth

Just watched Boys Don't Cry again. Twice. First time, normal audio like before. Second time, with director's commentary track. Again, I'll say it: Wowee. What a movie. Methinks rookie director Kimberly Peirce could teach some people in Hollywood a few things about story telling. Talk about making the most of a very limited amount of time and budget! Lots of excellent insights into the characters and motivations on the track as well. /me enjoyed it mucho. Tomorrow morning, it goes back to Blockbuster.
Speaking of tomorrow morning, I received a note in the mail today. I shall be heading to the post office at a nice early hour to pick up a big ole bucket of parts that should be waiting there. Woohoo! :)
The big questions looming in my mind: a) Where to put it, and b) what distro to start with. The name, of course, was decided many, many moons ago, and will be officially announced with much fanfare when the beast becomes verifiably functional. (For those wondering about the gender, I will say this: A "she" it will be.)
So, regarding question A. Since I haven't yet made provisions for a new keyboard, mouse, monitor, or sound output, Dagobah's external IO devices will be shared in the short term. Therefore, I think I can find a way to cram the CPU somewhere in here. Maybe Dagobah can scoot over a bit, or... something. I'll make do. :)
And, of course question B. Well Debian, obviously. :) But the version question gets interesting. I had been hoping for a while that a finalized Potato would be released before I acquired new hardware. I suppose I should've ordered a batch of things from Cheapbytes. Maybe I still will. As it is, all my cds are really old distros. I haven't ordered any in a while. Silly me.
Well, I'm sure that given the bandwidth now available around here, I'll figure something out. :)
If history is any indicator, I'll probably end up going through at least a half a dozen installs before I get to something I really, really like. You know the story: Install everything the way you think you'll want it the first time. Then use it for a bit, decide it would have been better if such-and-such partition was a different size, go back and wipe the drive, make more refined choices the second time through. Rinse and repeat. And you know the real reason we do it is because it's just so damn fun to do! If installing the first time was so much fun, why not start over and do it all again? :)
Although, maybe given my relative wealth of experience, combined with Debian's better-than-all-the-others packaging system, it won't take quite so many iterations. Unless I feel like it. We'll see... :)
And in case a certain reader might be wondering: No, I have not forgotten a prior arrangement scheduled to begin Sunday morning, although at this point, the idea of "forgetting" does sound slightly tempting. But that would be bad for my karma, so I better not. ;)
Nope, not much idling on the CPU this weekend. Those nice-ed background processes might just have to wait a bit. ;)
Yes, I like making dumb little statements which will be recognized and understood only by specific individuals who I happen to know are readers of this web page. That's my way. Thank you.
Now, in the interests of trying to maintain a semi-normal sleeping schedule, I think I'll try to make my brain run the shutdown script. Note to self: When one has gone off caffeine for a week, nearly cold turkey, ordering Pepsi at the Taco Bell drivethru after 2200 is NOT conducive to such efforts. But it just tasted sooo damn good.
BTW, in case I don't get around to it later: Unfortunately, I did not get around to signing up for the class I was going to sign up for this week. Next week, I will make it to fill out the forms. The last week of July. Then, come September, the fun/torture begins. Yeah.
I shall now take a pill or three, and attempt to execute shutdown procedures. G'night, ya'll.
