Lots of hype surrounding what pretty much amounts to a good movie, but not a great movie.

Plot: Pretty generic, run of the mill.

Characters: Likeable, which goes a long way to making this a good movie.

Effects: Very impressive, although nothing totally groundbreaking.

And of course, excellent performances by Patrick Stewart and Iam McKellan (but especially Patrick Stewart) bump it up into the three star category. :)
