Quick, everybody. What are the three major themes that pervade Madonna's music? Come on, come on. We don't have all day. I'll give you some clues. They're things all human beings possess, whether they admit it or not. Think now. Get those brains working. Madonna fans: What does Madonna do, talk about, think about, write about, sing about, learn about, and experience? Oh, come on. It's not that hard. She talks about all these things regularly in interviews. Three topics. She is famous (and infamous) for mixing them together.
Alright. Time's up. The first topic: Something everybody has: Something Madonna was subjected to throughout her childhood. Something Christians are bound to think about when they see the title of this article. That's right! Religion. And with Madonna, it's a lot of Catholocism because that's what she was raised with. But she does admittedly mix in concepts from other religions, including some eastern philosophies, to the great dismay of many loyal traditionalists.
Ok. Anybody want to take a quick stab at number two? What does everybody have? Come on, it's physically impossible to exist without one. What's the song Deeper and Deeper about? Ok, that one also contains references to both of the other themes, so I'll give you an easier clue. Keep It Together. Keep it together forever and ever. Any Madonna fan knows what I'm talking about now. Family! The second theme that pervades her music, speech, and mind is family. You're getting better at this. The next one will be a breeze.
Ok, before I give you the most rediculously easy clue for number three, let's stimulate people's brains. Theme number two cannot exist without theme number three. Now, everybody has no doubt figured it out. But, for the slow ones, I'll give it away without even using the word. What is Madonna best known for? What is the title of a book she recently published a few years back? For the ignorant ones, this book is now a rare collector's item. It sold a million copies in the U.S. right off the bat, but the media criticized it relentlessly and heralded it as the end of Madonna's career. Alright, for the truly degenerate among you who need everything spelled out, I'll give you the first letter. The word starts with an "S". Still haven't figured it out? Show your neighbors this article and have them help you. I'll bet one of them will know the answer.
