Ruins of BJA Grade School, Mapleton Hill

The house where we lived on Mapleton Hill. (1992 - 1994?) It was a short walk from the school.

The Boulder SDA church, where I went as a child.

BJA, where I went to grade school. It has since been closed down. Good little anarchists that we are, we decided to ignore the "No Tresspassing" sign and go exploring... Well, the doors were open.

Evidence of squatters abounded.

The old drinking fountain.

Graffiti adorned the walls. Some of it was quite skilled. Other, was... well, beauty in the eye of the beholder.

The principal's office.

The hallway. Debris everywhere. Oh yeah.

More carnage.

The old school library room.

Typical classroom scene. This was the first classroom I had in the school, when I was in 5th grade. I remember those little bathrooms doors in the corner..

This was wilder than anything I could have imagined as a student there. I hated school, and secretly often wished it could all be destroyed. But upon seeing the material commencement of such a dream simply left me... nostalgic.

Loft from old classroom of younger students. (Younger defined as younger than I was when I started going to school there.)

Smash!

Preschool classroom, where I was once employed.

Preschool playground.

Preschool sidewalk. Yes, nostalgia overcame me with the camera in my hand.

Exterior view of classroom.

Wild plants, unhindered, grow tall. Ran Prieur, eat your heart out!

Old locker room.

The gym.

"We love what you've done with the place!" No, truly. Rain and I loved it.

The classroom that I remember best as the 9th and 10th grade room when I was in those grades. This one had the best graffiti.

Expansion room. (Added after my attendance there was done, though I did assist with a little of the construction work.) Now, it too, is filled with glorious chaos.

More of the gym.

Me, being a good student!

The stage, where school plays where once held. Right about here was when the new owner of the property showed up to chase us off. When we told him that I used to go to school here, and were here to simply take pictures, he was actually quite nice, and said we could take as many pictures as we like. But our tour was pretty much complete anyway. He said that the building is slated to be torn down. I didn't think to ask what will be going there in its place. Maybe on a future visit to Colorado, we'll find out.

Back around the old Boulder church, where I was indoctrinated as a child. My best memories of the place are of playing outside, so I was glad to get a few photos of those areas.

The old crabapple tree I used to climb. It, too, still stands.

The old hospital. Still looks pretty much the same from the outside. Once an SDA hospital, it is now under different ownership.
