Bitscape: Correction: George Bush actually has his main speech tonight. Last night, he "spoke" in an appearance via teleconference, but all he did there was introduce his wife. (Who, in turn, talked for a long time -- very sincerely, I'm sure -- without really taking a single stance on any issue until I got sick of it and tuned out. Summary of what I heard, "Oh how I love my husband George. Let me count the ways.") What a bunch of empty hype. But I'm still going to tune in to see what he says tonight.

Bitscape: Correction AGAIN: Actually, my dad says Bush won't speak again until TOMORROW (Thursday) night. Tonight it's just Dick Cheney. But tomorrow, I want to at least go to hacking society. Maybe I can go out to my car and listen to Bush in the parking lot at hacking society (and invite others to join me if they care to share in the two minutes hate, or something). I'm sure we'll figure it out.

Bitscape: Still, I'll be interested to hear what Cheny says tonight on the gay right issue.

Bitscape: Gay rights, I mean, hah. (For those who don't know: Cheney is one of the few republicans who has recently come out in support for gay rights; probably because he has a lesbian daughter. So what he says on that is key to whether or not the republicans can be trusted at all. Will he say anything at all about it, or just prattle on in praise of Bush like Arnold did last night?) TUNE IN AND WATCH.

Bitscape realizes he is now advertising for the opposition party, and will thus withdraw and be silent for a moment.

Bitscape: The stark contrast between the lies of the republicans and reality couldn't be made more clear than this article describes: [www.thestar.com] We are living in Orwell's world.

Bitscape just listened to Cheney's speech, broadcast over pacifica radio. (with occassional bits of commentary about what was happening in the building by the pacifica newscasters between Cheney's statements.) Honestly, I'm not worried at all now. The Republicans tried to make it sound like Nuremburg, with all that chanting and insane applause. But according to the Pacifica people, the audience didn't even fill the building. Instead, Cheney spoke to a sparse crowd, while outside, demonstrators continued to protest in the streets. Message: The Republican Party is a hollow shell full of lies and illusions, so full of its own fear that it is unwilling to acknowledge a single shred of self-doubt, while they deride Kerry whenever he honestly considers both sides of any given issue. My vote will go to Kerry/Edwards, thank you. (And did you notice that Cheney was such a coward that he didn't even bring up the gay rights issue tonight at all? He is not the man of courage he pretends to be. He is a deceiver.)

Bitscape: If Bush refuses to admit his own wrongs, how can anyone on the other side have room to admit what he did that was right?
2004-09-01 23:30:48
Bitscape: If Bush (or Kerry, for that matter) had a conscience, this is what they would be talking about and discussing. But they aren't. We won't hear a single mention of it from either the Republican or Democratic convention. Welcome to Nazi America. [www.kenkinder.com]

Bitscape: Perhaps because that's not one of the causes they advocate. They can only do so much. They leave gun rights to others. Just like the EFF is a good lobbying organization, but I very rarely, if ever, hear them talk about abortion rights.
