Argo Gallops Again

I was about to go to class, but then I decided I didn't really feel like driving all the way to Boulder tonight, plus I really wanted to finish getting Argo up and running. So I stuck around here, ate some of my dad's vegetables, and read more Ran Prieur while files were copied, did an epic debian upgrade happened, and took care other little details that needed attention.
Now, I type this from the reborn Argo, as I download more music onto this newer, much larger hard drive, and play around on the much more responsive, snappier desktop (especially after enduring Rygel for over 6 months). It's like I've just been dosed with a stronger, more powerful drug.
Argo is running the 2.6.7 kernel. My desktop looks pretty much the same for now, but everything is smoother. No more clicks and pops in the sound whenever I access an IDE device, as always happened on Rygel. Kohan is snappy, no interface lag. I can play quake3. Mozilla doesn't drag when I switch between tabs. And I have over 100GB free space in /home!
For those curious (and for my own future reading), here's how the hardware breaks down. First, the new parts:
- ECS KT600-A Motherboard
- 1100 MHz Athlon
- 160 GB Western Digital SATA hard drive
Original Argo hardware still in use:
- ATX mid-tower case, 350W power supply.
- 40GB Maxtor hard drive.
- DVD-ROM drive.
- 1.44 Floppy.
- SBLive soundcard.
- Matrox G400 video card.
- Extra tulip network card (the new motherboard also has an integrated card which I'm using for primary connectivity, but I put an old card in just in case Argo ever needs to function as a router)
- Keyboard, mouse, monitor. Same stuff I've been using with Rygel, and Argo before that.
Eventually, I might upgrade the video card and/or buy a burner, but for now, this setup is suiting me just fine.
Now with this setup feeling so comfy, I almost wonder if it's going to be worthwhile to install gentoo, but I've already ordered the cd, and besides, it is good for the mind to try new things from time to time.
