An entertaining movie. A little heavy on the
overwrought Hollywood cliché dosage for my
taste, but still enjoyable.
In some of the battle scenes (particularly, as lines of
troops mached into one another to fight), a few of the
shots were dead ringers for Lord of the Rings battle
cinematography. In the credits, I looked to see if there
was any mention of the "Massive" software engine.
There wasn't. But I'd bet that either they used it with
no mention in the credits, or managed to conjure up a
nice in-house clone.
High points: Peter O'Toole's performance as the king of
Troy. Well-choreographed fights. Diane Kruger's performance as
Helen, which mostly consisted of standing around looking cute
enough that I could almost believe someone might send an entire
army after her. Brad Pitt's charming performance as Achilles.
Low points: Overlong and obvious dialog scenes in
which the actors (and writers) were competent enough to
convince me I was watching an expensive blockbuster
feature, but not daring enough to make me really care
(Peter O'Toole excepted). Brad Pitt's charming
performance as Achilles.
