Today, it was confirmed beyond the shadow of a doubt; my dad will finally be moving tomorrow.

When I informed scottgalvin.com of what was happening, he offered to assist. So it looks we will have a team of 3 to move stuff to the new place.

Regarding Internet, after briefly contemplating other options, we decided we're going to stay with Comcast for the time being. Since some money has actually started flowing in from net work, I agreed to at least pay half of the bill. Hell, since I'm getting the free space to stash my PC and desk, and I use it more than he does anyway, I should probably pay the whole net access bill.

(For a while, when it wasn't certain whether dad would want to have net access at the new place, I contemplated just moving all my shit over to mom's place, and getting a line installed there. But upon further contemplation, I decided that the advantages of net access at dad's outweighted the convience of having everything at one spot. For one thing, there really isn't any extra room to stuff my PC over there along with everyone else. Also, as long as I'm in this situation, there is a certain desirable balance to be maintained by bouncing back and forth between the residences. It's tricky to explain.)

If all goes well, net access at the new place will be up sometime on Wednesday. However, due to some even more recent developments, that may become a moot point. More on that in a bit.

This evening, I made my first visit to a location which I shall provisionally dub the Celestial Cyberhaven. What is the Celestial Cyberhaven, you might ask?

For the past few of weeks, scottgalvin.com has been doing much of his work in what he described as an "office", using the term very, very loosely. This office is in fact not really an office at all, but a condo, in which there happens to be a bedroom containing a desk where he sits at his laptop, whiling away the hours of the business day.

Having now seen this condo first hand, I would estimate that as far as class goes, this place would fall at least into the top 5% echelon of residential real estate properties in the metro area. Located within easy walking distance of the Cherry Creek Mall, it sits on the top floor of a 15-story building overlooking the city. (For those not familiar with Colorado, Cherry Creek is renowned as one of the highest class suburbs in the Denver area.)

The actual floorspace of this "condo" was originally cast as two units. The owner of the property bought two adjacent spaces, both of which would be very spacious to begin with. The walls between them were knocked out, and the whole thing converted into one giant suite.

Located at the corner of the building, virtually every wall facing the outside is nothing but glass from top to bottom. The porch is lined with screens. (This alleviates the necessity of a screen door; the door to the porch can be left wide open to wander in and out without any worry of bugs making their way into the enclosure.) From this vantage point, you can pretty much see the entire expanse of the metro area all the way up to the Rockies.

Currently, this residence is, to a large extent, vacant. Nobody lives there, although it is still well furnished. The owner moved to another place within driving distance, but has kept this "old place" around mostly for the address, as well as other occassional utility uses.

Through a hilariously serendipitous sequence of events, this person became a client in one of scott's business ventures. The way things have progressed, the word "client" almost isn't sufficient anymore. "Patron" might be more fitting.

Though only a small percentage of our ongoing work is needed for this client's business, they have offered to let scottgalvin.com use the aforementioned place as office space, free of charge for at least several months.

When I arrived, scottgalvin.com was returning with some munchies from Whole Foods. (I couldn't help but wonder if he might have unknowingly bumped into someone I don't really know but whose journal I read during any of his visits there lately.)

We rode up the elevator, ate some yummy cookies, he gave me the tour, and I took a few minutes to marvel in wonder at the place. We settled down, played some pinball in the living room (yes, realy live physical pinball with the metal things that bounce around), firef off a few rounds of a pseudo-nerf rocket launcher thing, and I watched the sun set over the mountains from the porch while scott chatted with random people on the phone.

Then we got down to business. We went into the office and scott poked around on his laptop (facing yet another the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the city lights), and I assisted him in figuring out some stuff that's in the works.

As we wrapped up, scott suggested that during the net downtime while moving, I might try bringing my PC down to the office (a.k.a. Celestial Cyberhaven), and share in the joy, which would also allow him the opportunity to bug me in person whenever something on any of the servers needs fixing, adding, installing, removing, or whatever.

Despite being impressed with the place, I was initially somewhat hesitant to move my only working computer to someplace other than "home", but after thinking about it a bit, I decided what the hell. Let's give it a shot for a few days. See how things go.

At the very least, it will have some entertainment value. It might even manage to help jolt me out of the uninspired funk I've so frequently gotten stuck in lately. It will also give me a lot better idea what working side by side next to scott for a full working day would be like. A sample of possible future endeavors.

So I agreed. After the move tomorrow, Rygel will not immediately be going to my dad's new place, but to the Celestial Cyberhaven, where he will remain for a period of several days.

And now, I really must get a bit of sleep. Tomorrow will be a busy day.
