Zan Lynx: And this one: [freerepublic.com]
2004-04-16 16:13:47
Bitscape: So... Maybe if the Iraqis can agree to stop using ambulances to cover and transport troops, the U.S. will stop firing on medical vehicles and personnel?
2004-04-16 19:53:20
Bitscape: Somehow, I don't see either one as likely to happen anytime soon. There is no good answer.
2004-04-16 19:54:30
Bitscape: It's looking more and more like Israel, with one exception: I doubt the U.S. has any plans to transport and colonize Iraq with a largely civilian population.
2004-04-16 19:56:42
Bitscape: So what's the solution? I say withdraw all troops, and let the natives figure it out amongst themselves. That's what most of them want anyway, and it would spare the lives of more U.S. soldiers.
2004-04-16 19:59:02
Bitscape: Who knows? Maybe the Sunni and Shia would find a way to come up with a peaceful solution. Then again, maybe not.

bouncing: Furthermore, most interferance is done to corporations. But the existance of corporations is because of gov't intervention. So in a free market, corporations and their inherent legal protections would not exist.
2004-04-21 18:29:14
Zan Lynx: Without government, which intervenes to create corporations, legal protections for anything would not exist.
2004-04-21 22:09:58
Zan Lynx: I agree that saying "liberals" want to censor opposition is painting with a broad brush. However, do you disagree that many universities with anti-"hate speech" rules are censoring opinions they disagree with?

Zan Lynx: It's the Secret Service. Do you really think they wouldn't do the same for Kerry?
2004-04-28 12:48:28
Jäger: No, of course not, because everyone loves Kerry and no one would be compelled to draw unkind things about him.
2004-04-28 19:22:25
Bitscape: They very likely would. This is not the first time the Secret Service has trampled constitutional rights.
2004-04-28 21:06:44
Bitscape: Can't find a url right now, but when Clinton was in office, I remember hearing about somebody making a Doom mod which featured a graphic of the then president's head grafted onto one of the demons. The Secret Service not only forced it to be taken off the net, but went to the house of the guy who made it and hassled him for conspiring to assassinate the president. IMO, they are a sick institution that needs to be put on a much tighter leash, regardless of who is currently in the White House.
