Fuckin A. 29.5 hours. Make it 30 soon. That's how long it's been since I last slept.
Last night, I went to Dark Horse + BLUG, where I got to listen to a fascinating (though sometimes a bit over my head) talk about the Objective CAML language. Despite certain rumors that may have been spread by someone who often posts on this page and types at this keyboard, scottgalvin.com was not in attendance at BLUG. (Behold how easily seduced away by a Mac users group are some. ;)
After BLUG, and a little shuffling around of DVD content with certain individuals common to these threads, I headed to Peter's house. There, scottgalvin.com and I got underway with another momentous project involving big fancy server hardware, operating system installations, and fun with driver modules.
To make a long story short, this lasted well into the daylight hours.
With the sun bright in the sky, we finally trekked out of the residence of Peter, loaded our cars with the goods, and drove to the mighty data center.
There, we futzed around for a good long while with drills, screws, brackets, and other rack mounting gizmos, and laughed at the thought of all the people who might be blissfully checking their email right at that moment (not to mention certain web pages, this one being among them), unaware that these means of communication were literally at that moment being held up by nothing more than a few wobbly strained, muscles, a dangling piece of metal with barely enough cohesion to withstand gravity, and a strong dose of willpower.
By early afternoon, we had achieved our mission for this session, which is but the opening phase in the context of a much larger project of work. (I might be tempted to discuss more details, but confidentiality being what it is, I'll leave it at that.)
This means that at the moment, I have not one, but two relatively large scale projects on my plate, along with a handful of other little odds and ends. It feels rather good to be useful.
With that accomplished, we went to "lunch" (in a manner of speaking), chatted for a while in a state of phased awareness beyond tiredness, and concluded our day.
But right now, with adrenaline and caffeine being on the verge of way passed expiration, I shall take some time to run "shutdown -h now" on the piece of biological hardware that I inhabit wherever I go.
Goodnight.
