Another one for the Kohan nuts

Yanthor and I did a little "play testing" on my Wild Triangle map tonight.

For posterity's sake, and for any interested parties, here's the film (not), clocking in at just under 2.5 hours. (Ok, so technically, it wasn't our first battle, but certainly the most interesting.) Truly insane.

After playing it, Yanthor's biggest suggestion before the "real release" of the map version comes out is to change the desert into hills. Though I like the desert, I must admit that it does tend to prolong stalemates to an almost unbearable degree.

I suspect it might also need some tweaks for balance, but I'm going to hold off on those until we can try a whole game or five with all human players. I might make some other slight tweaks on the booty from lairs before tomorrow's Kohan challenge though.

Oh well. Anyway, that was insane fun. (Maybe one of these days, I might even type a non-kohan related rambling. We'll just have to see...)

P.S. Ok, so that didn't work so well. When I initially posted the film, I didn't realize it also required an unmodified version of the map in order to work. (Silly, the film files work by themselves just fine when you use random maps, but not so with custom maps, I guess.) Since I'm making changes to the map which will be distributed, in an attempt to avoid confusion with version changes later, I'll just withdraw the film posting for now. Oh well.

Map changes

Ok, I made the following little changes:

  • The northern stretch of desert nearest to the ceyah player has been converted into hills.
  • The deserts to the east and west of the mercenary camp are now jungle. (I wanted to preserve at least some sense of barrier between the ceyah base and the other players.)
  • Booty from the barbarian camps near royalist and council has been changed from an amulet to 70 gold.
  • I added raaksha nests to the northeast/west the easten and westen players, and moved the extra amulets to those.

We'll see how it plays on Wednesday night. :)

Downloading the Film
by Yanthor (2003-11-12 08:57)

Obviously I have the film, but did you say you were putting up for download? If so, where do people download it?

I changed my mind

I put the film up at first, but then I discovered that the film requires the map, and doesn't work when the version of the map you have is different from when the game was played. Since I changed the map, and I assume that within the next 24 hours, everyone's system will have the new map, it makes the film kind of useless. Bummer, huh?

wow, bummer

I thought the map was imbedded in the film! Think of games played on random maps. Those maps must be regenerated based on specified random seeds stored in the film or something.

That, or someone thought "Maps will never change! Let's save space by not embedding the map unless it's a random map."
