I like it.
The writers of this movie definitely had a clue or two
about human nature.
This is also one of those movies that makes me wish I
was multi-lingual. With so much going on in the
dialog, even as rapidly flashing images of cinematic
beauty evolve and disappear from the screen, it seems
like a sin to have to be constantly moving the eyes
down to read the words.
The story.... I'd like to try summarizing it, but that's
not so easy. I guess one way would be to say that it's
about a girl who makes it her life's mission to bring
a little bit of joy into the lives of people, one instance
at a time.
In some ways, the character of Amelie reminds me
altogether too much of myself. Should I expand on
that? Well, I'll just say that though I had a few
good friends, much of my childhood was also spent in
isolation. Is it then a coincidence that I have
also found myself often behaving like a "coward" when
confronted with sexual situations? Coincidence, or
a response created via lifelong patterns molded at a
time when the soul was too young and fragile to take
anything other than what was imprinted upon it?
Some of the more outlandish stream of consciousness sequences
almost reminded me of Ally McBeal on acid.
