Ben Affleck plays a CIA agent when the world is on the brink of international disaster. A potential third World War, triggered by the devious intents of those who wants to take advantage of the paranoia of the super powers.

The movie is aptly titled. Its overall view of human nature is optimistic, grounded in the belief that war could be brought about not so much because of malice (at least by most people), but by escalating mutual fear, worst-case thinking, and communication breakdown. Cleverly manipulated by a few crafty nasties placed in key positions, distrust could plunge us into unspeakable disaster which would make Sept 11 look like a country picnic.

I liked the movie for its sharp writing, attention to character detail, and literally keeping me on the edge of my seat while simultaniously being thought provoking, especially throughout the "second" half. The camera work and effects were great too. Conventional, but effective.

I thought it would be reasonably good. It turned out to be great. Maybe not best picture material, but a very solid and riveting movie.
